Benayoun: Fourth Place Is Out of Our Hands

|

benayounLiverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun believes the draw against Birmingham City means they have no way of determining whether they get fourth spot:

“It is hard to explain. There is a big difference between last season – performances were much better then and we had more confidence. . . We are fighting for fourth place. I know it is important but it just isn’t the same. We have made it harder but all we can do is play the last five games and see what happens. We are now depending on other results and this makes it more difficult. This was a big chance. Birmingham are a good team but we had to win, especially after Tottenham lost.”

The draw at St Andrews means Liverpool lie 6th with 55 points from 33 games while Manchester City and Tottenham who lie above them have 59 and 58 points respectively, having played one game less.

Thank goodness Benayoun has the decency and the temerity to admit what has long been obvious unlike Rafa and the technically-limited-how-did-he-make-it-in-football Carra who until recently are still foolishly deceiving themselves and the fans.
