“Yossi says that if Rafa stays, then he will go.”

|

A source close to Yossi Benayoun told Goal.com why the Liverpool midfielder wants to leave Anfield. The Israeli apparently believes that Rafa Benitez just doesn’t trust him:

“Yossi loves Liverpool and wants to stay but he feels that Rafa does not really trust him. Whenever Rafa looks to make a substitution or rotate the team, Yossi always seems to be the fall guy, even when he is playing really well. He believes he would be better off playing under a manager who really believes in him. None of the [Liverpool] players really know if Rafa will be manager next season but Yossi says that if Rafa stays, then he will go. He feels he would get more chances at another team.”

Benayoun only signed a contract extension until 2013 last summer but he has strongly been linked with a move to Chelsea. The 30 year old started the season strongly and scored nine goals in 42 appearances, becoming one of the most creative players in the Liverpool team, but he has become frustrated with the manager’s seeming reluctance to pick him as an automatic first choice.

If a player does not want to play for the manager and does not want to play for Liverpool then he should go!

Its due to players like Beneyoun, Riera, Voronin and in the early part Babel (me first attitude)coupled with the lack of talent as well that Liverpool find themselves in an unacceptable position of 7th. Its like a cancer and it need to be removed from the squad.

Does Berbatov or Owen complain at ManU? They hardly play and are bigger names than Yossi!!! What about the other lads at Arsenal or the players at Chelsea or the players at Spurs or City!!! Lesser clubs than us but no such problems!

Yossi has given us 1/2 a good season and in that season his form was such he couldn’t be dropped. way to fight for the shirt Yossi!!!!

This guy is average at best and needs to take his sorry attitude with him to the pensioner paradise that is Chelski. Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out!!!

  • RafaTheRed says:

Oh ye and for you idiots chanting Rafa out think of this! Who do we replace him with?

Apart from Morinho who unless you’ve been living on another planet has just signed for Real Madrid. Who takes Rafas place. No money for transfers or under 20m anyway (which probably would go towards paying Rafa off. Also has to assess and sell player to generate money.

Hodgson, Oneil haha good luck with that!!!

Yossi and Riera can never put on a Liverpool shirt again!

Rafa has been successful under the circumstances! No money 1 FA Cup, 1 Champions League Win, 1 Champions League Win, second place in the league.

Fergie won nothing in the first 6 years!!! Patience!!!!

  • Rafa says:

Money money money, nobody likes to sit on the bench when they’re getting an “average” salary. Can’t blame him to be honest, but then is it really Rafa’s fault? How many teams have class players sitting on the bench half the time earning a mediocre salary?

  • m kop says:

I’d let him leave, his complaints are not valid as the teams like Chelsea, United, City and even Tottenham have more expensive players on their bench.

It can be frustraiting to see Rafa changing, I know, as it was too often I’ve seen El Zhar getting in, and than I here people complaining about Babel!
Babel at least has done some things for Liverpool, he has managers interested to get him.

Yossi has been good for Liverpool, but if he wants to go Liverpool must use the opportunity to get younger player, Mata, Jovetic or if that’s imposible than Arda Turan would be available.

  • Jay says:

it’s easier to sit on the bench when the players ahead of you are playing well and the team is winning. When the team is performing as badly as we did last season, yet you see the same faces picked time and time again while even a goalscoring performance won’t guarantee you a start in the next match, then it would be understandable that you’d be getting a bit peeved. Especially if you believe that you could do a better job than your counterparts on the pitch.

RafaTheRed – Many managers could’ve managed us to 7th place while playing better football last season. Off of the top of my head, Riijkaard, Bilic, Blanc (missed out on him already now) would all jump at the chance to replace Rafa and would give the playing staff the boost that they so obviously need. Furthermore there are plenty of talented managers plying their trade under the radar much like Wenger, Riijkaard, Guardiola & even Benitez (pre Valencia) were before they were given their big breaks.
btw, what’s the difference between Benayoun saying that he’d prefer to move somewhere where he feels he’d be better appreciated, and Rafa with his stance that the board need to back him or he’s off??

  • Voland says:

I doubt very much that this reflects Benayoun’s comments – and I can hardly see him getting more playing time at Chelsea.

  • YNWalkA says:

RafaTheRed…….Well Said, those on here. calling for Rafa head, should also suggest a replacement and if they come up with…Hodgson, Oneil, then they should all go and play, some fantasy footy!!!!cause they are obviously…CLUELESS….

    John @7.04pm

Give me SOLID evidence that Rafa is a bad man manager.

This is a myth from the London based media. If you can give me EVIDENCE then I’ll be happy to review my position.

And this story, well, let’s just say, Chelski have a lot of friends in the London press. Ridiculous.

  • John82 says:

As for the touted replacements for Rafa. Seriously guys, you think Martin O’Neill will do any better jumping around the touchline when Heskey and Petrov miss opportunities.

  • Mr Gullible says:

    A source.

    hahahah

    slow news this weekend ladies..?

  • Greg says:

Yossi had a really good 2009, particularly from late March to about November. Other than that, he hasn’t been much better than Babel during his time at the club. You often hear him referred to in the media as our most creative player last season but that just means he can dribble, without ever actually making an opportunity from it (that lovely through ball for Torres against Man Utd was the exception.) Looking at the league stats, Yossi had the same number of assists for last season as Insua, and two-thirds the number of – wait for it – Aquilani! Flatters to deceive is the phrase. We’ve already replaced him, with the free, and more incisive, Maxi Rodriguez.

  • Paul Hudson says:

Bye bye benitez, benayoun, lucas, carragher, insua, kuyt, agger, ngog, pellagrino, all the scouts and all the kids hes brought in. A complete clearout is what’s needed. bring back Paco Ayesteran.

  • Rick says:

You guys say nobody is bigger than the club hey? Interesting that you Rafa supporters feel that he (Rafa) is bigger though. I laugh at how Rafa got it right to pull the wool over your eyes. Shanks would never have allowed this to happen. He would’ve been the first person to tell (not ask)Rafa to leave!

    How I miss Shankly!

  • Jack says:

Hey Rick we don’t believe Rafa is bigger than the club. We just look at the facts and not get swayed so easily by the cretinous media. As for saying Shanks would tell Rafa to leave, I think he would be the first one to tell the yanks to leave and then ask for Rafa to stay.

  • Blindside says:

Just popped in to say bye-bye to Yossi.

  • Bottles says:

I hope you have a great day! Very good article, well written and very thought out. I am looking forward to reading more of your posts in the future.
