Reds hoping to slash wage bill after Benitez exit

|

The Independent are reporting that Liverpool are hoping to cut their wage bill after Rafa Benitez’s appointment at Inter Milan.  After the Spanish manager’s £6million payoff, the Reds are hoping that Benitez will take four well paid senior staff members with him if he does take on the role of replacing Jose Mourinho at the Italian club. Not only would the exit of  staff reduce the wage bill but the club would  also get some sizeable sums in compensation to allow them to leave for Internazionale. The three most likely to follow Rafa to Inter are first team coach Mauricio Pellegrino, goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero and fitness coach Paco Miguel. According to Inter chairman Massimo Moratti, the deal to bring Benitez to the San Siro is near completion. He said:

“The deal is more or less done. We decisively targeted Benitez from the beginning.”

Thats going to really help isn’t it? What are they each on £100,000 a week?

I doubt there will be any compensation for those staff members, certainly not enough to make a difference.
