French newspaper L’Equipe believes that both Liverpool and Stoke are tracking former Lyon right back Francois Clerc. The French international is currently available on a free transfer after running down his contract with the French club but the 27 year old has had to fight off rumours of a serious knee injury. Clerc has denied the rumours, stating in L’Equipe:
“I am a French international, a free agent, I have contact with very good clubs, but there is a stumbling block. It has all started with a rumour from people with ill intentions, who don’t want me to get success away from Lyon. (The rumour) was I could not play football anymore. Some even said I had a 10 centimetre gap in my knee. It is completely false, my knee is perfectly fine, but that rumour caused me trouble. I am keen to make any trip for any examinations needed.”
The French full back is also the subject of interest from West Ham, confirmed by the player’s agent a couple of weeks ago.
