Grit, Determination and Dignity: Roy’s not Hollywood but he’ll get respect

|

With the official appointment of Roy Hodgson and the necessary press conference out of the way it’s time for us all to start looking to the future, hopefully a much brighter one.

For Liverpool fans, the last few years have been particularly tough, surrounded by controversy, poor decisions and average management both on and off the pitch. The usual, traditional optimism of a Liverpool fan has turned into one of despair and pessimism.

I have read Liverpool fans comments and opinions regarding our new Manager with great interest. Opinions seem to be divided. Many fans have given their full backing and support to the new Manager and seem pleased at his arrival. Others seem very unsure as to the appointment and would have preferred our next manager to possess a greater level of flamboyancy and flair.

As I commented in a previous blog I would have liked to have seen someone like Frank Rijkaard takeover in the Liverpool hot seat.  After careful reflection my opinion has since changed. Roy Hodgson is well respected throughout football and you will find it a huge struggle to find anyone with a bad word to say about him. He is a motivator, a tactician and a master at working within a tight transfer budget. With Roy you know that he will get 100% out of any player that works under him. Could you say the same about a Rijkaard, a Mancini or a Pelligrini? I think not.

Roy Hodgson might not be the Hollywood name that many of us Liverpool fans had hoped for, but he possesses all the skills that Liverpool Football club need in our current situation. Grit, determination and dignity. It is time for us Liverpool fans to summon up what little optimism we have inside ourselves, support the new Manager and look to the future.

Our Chairman has publicly stated that the sale of Liverpool FC is on track and new owners should be in place by the end of the summer. Let’s hope this is fact rather than fiction and in a few months time we have a determined new owner to work with our determined new Manager.

I have been a Liverpool fan for 22 years. I live in Watford and as a kid my dad would take me to see the Hornets every week. John Barnes quckly became my footballing idol. When he moved on to Liverpool I began to follow the team and have supported them ever since

At best liverpool will be the best mediocre team in the premier league.
The only concelation is that the stingy owners will be making less money from the sale of the club unless their plan is to sell off Stevie, Nando, Masch and Pepe and take the money and run.
Soddy moneygrabbers that they are who’ll be surprised.

agree with martyn, my initial opinion of roy has changed too.
i think if the current crop of players can be persuaded to stay for another season (apart from masch, who appears determined to leave) and with the reported £40m spent wisely on 2 QUALITY players, then i think with his work ethic and man-management skills, he could just surprise a few people!
