The Worst Possible Dilemma for Roy to contend with

|

After all the euphoria of Spain winning the World Cup the worst possible scenario has happened to Liverpool FC.

With ever increasing speculation that Fernando Torres was to be sold to raise funds for Roy Hodgson to rebuild his own squad, the news of an injury nightmare in the last minutes of the World Cup final has cast major doubt over either his possible transfer or his participation in any of the upcoming early premier league games.

The hamstring injury which looks to have reared its ugly head again could have put paid to any thought’s Hodgson had of looking for a centre forward to play alongside Torres or a centre forward to replace him.

After recovering from the previous injury setbacks, Torres could now be out for up to 3 months, so Hodgson now has 2 possible scenarios to contend with, does he use the money he has set aside for defensive cover to buy a world class centre forward or give some of the under performing players of last year a chance to fulfil earlier promise.

Either way, the speculation that was around one of our best players seems now to have been stopped, injury over the last year has marred his appearances for us and has now put our and his season in the same predicament as we ended it.

So what happens now, does Hodgson play Milan Jovanovic in all of the upcoming pre-season friendlies and hope he clicks straight away or does he give David Ngog and Ryan Babel the chance to fulfil the promise which made Rafa Benitez pay silly amounts of money for.

The dilemma is clear, Hodgson needs to pray that one of these options work quickly or else he will need to wave his magic wand and hope that either his scouts have got a centre forward in mind that they can get on the cheap or that he takes an experienced centre forward like David Trezeguet on a short term contract.

My preference is look for a short term loan signing and who else could and would like to finish off something he never got the chance to show, none other then Robbie Keane, a proven goal scorer.

Tottenham have made no secret that they want to keep hold of him but cannot guarantee first team action, loaned out to Celtic last year, the forgotten man of Spurs would dearly love to prove to the many doubters especially Benitez what he was capable of, he is fit and was not involved in the World Cup and is ready to go, so role on the 15th of August, bring on Arsenal and lets get behind our team and start the season on a high.

use the money from mascheranos sale and buy

    bastian schweinsteiger.

use the money from reira and babel and yossi which could total if sold around 21-22 mill and then sell el zhar and ngog for they would fetch about 5 mill, add to the above and buy lahm for around 25 mill.

then with the money that the two yanks pricks are making ready to use the reported 15 mill, add that to the sales of diego the keeper, he would bring 1 mill and that of memeth and spearing that would add another 5 mill thats another 20 mill to net either a front man or wide player.

    kelly carra agger lahm
    johnson aquilani schweinsteiger
    gerrard
    torres mata

Samuel Charles if you honestly think we’ve got a snowball’s chance of buying Schweinstriger go back to your computer games. This isn’t fantasy league, we have 12 million and you think Bayern would sell him for less than 50 mill after the World Cup he had? Laham and Mata as well seriously you’re either deluded or a idiot.

They should sell Ngog i would like to see them get Jovetic or Krkic probrably wouldn’t happen but money from sales would allow 1 marquee signing.

good article, must admit i hadn’t given robbie a thought, but now you mention it i don’t think it would be a bad idea but would robbie?
totally agree with andy H, samuel you are off your rocker mate!
have to say, the paul scharner link has got me nervous, surely roy can set his sights a little higher! seen another link with benega today, thats more like it!

First of all anyone thinking that Schweinsteiger will move away from Bayern should get real. Why would he leave a Champions League finalist who has had 12 or so players in the World Cup semi finals. Even Ribery extended his contract there. Same goes for Lahm. It is not as if Bayern have to sell anyone. They are loaded.

Now to the article. The silly money paid for N’Gog was 1 or 1.5 m. Robbie Keane, while probably misused by Rafa, didn’t exactly set the world alight whilst at Anfield. I will always remember him waving all game as to show his mom at home that he’s on telly. His career didn’t go the right way since, too. Trezeguet doesn’t exactly excite me either. Who do you come up with next? Ibrahimovic? Why not go for Huntelaar who is allegedly unhappy in Italy. He is still the right side of 30, too, and worth a try.

anteater, robbie wasn’t probably misused by bungling benny, he was DEFINATELY misused by bungling benny! which is probably why his career has suffered, so i think given the chance to show what he is really capable of, he would do a decent job.
as for huntelaar, i would take a risk for the right money, i say risk because not too many dutchmen have succeeded outside of holland and he hasn’t exactly set madrid or milan alight!

steve mcauley, I simply didn’t want to upset the IRWT-brigade. Anyway, I wasn’t impressed by Robbie Keane and as a result of that would not re-sign him.
