Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that the impending arrival of Mesut Ozil from Werder Bremen for €15m could spell the end of Rafael van der Vaart’s time with Real Madrid. A midfield consisting of Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Ozil, Sergio Canales, Angel Di Maria, Esteban Granero, Lassana Diarra, Sami Khedira and Mahamadou Diarra means there is little space for the Dutch World Cup star in the squad. There has been interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in the past for the 27 year old, and it remains to be seen where van der Vaart’s future lies beyond the end of the transfer window. The arrival of Joe Cole means a move to the Reds would be unlikely but if Ryan Babel does depart from the club, could VDV, who can play a number of positions in midfield, be an interesting option?

I think what both the previous comments forget is we need a winger desperately and VDV can play out wide very well. Also, do we really need a LB with Insua and Aurelio still here?
