Capello to delay Gerrard decision

|

England manager Fabio Capello will delay his decision over naming the England captain until the squad meet up next week for the country’s home qualifier against Montenegro, according to the Daily Telegraph. The paper believes it is significant that the England boss has not automatically reverted to Rio Ferdinand, and there is growing speculation that Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard will be named permanent captain. Ferdinand has had a number of injury problems over the past year and Capello could give the armband to Gerrard to give the team some continuity. It is still uncertain whether Ferdinand will feature against Sunderland on Saturday despite starting against Valencia in the Champions League during mid week and Capello may go with the argument that the Manchester United defender’s unreliability should mean that the captaincy be handed to Gerrard.
