With the lack of first team opportunities at Anfield, Liverpool’s Spanish centre back Daniel Ayala was loaned out at the start of September to Hull City. After Hull were relegated from the Premier League last season, new manager Nigel Pearson was looking for a player who could secure the Tigers’ backline and he took Ayala on an initial one month loan to see how the young Spaniard could cope with the rigours of the Championship.
Pearson gave Ayala his first start against Cardiff City on September 11th before playing his second match for the Tigers against Derby County at the KC Stadium. On his home debut, he scored his first goal in senior football in a 2-0 win. He would follow that performance up by helping Hull to another clean sheet at home to Nottingham Forest four days later. Ayala had certainly made an impression in his first three matches in the Championship and Hull attempted to extend the young Spaniard’s loan spell beyond the end of the month.
Liverpool accepted Hull’s offer and Ayala will be spending the rest of the year at the KC Stadium until the transfer window in January. Subsequently, Ayala has not missed a minute of football since joining the Tigers on loan and 5 days after it was announced that he would be staying at the club, he helped Hull secure a 2-0 victory away at newly promoted Norwich City, but since the Tigers have not recorded a win.
They currently have not won in 5 matches after starting the run of results with a 4-0 defeat away at Burnley at the end of September. Although they have kept one clean sheet during these matches in a 0-0 draw against Coventry City, they have conceded eight times in the last five games and this has been compounded by the fact they have only scored three goals during this time.
