Rumour Mill: Liverpool after £14m rated England winger?

|

According to The People newspaper, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Aston Villa and England winger Ashley Young. The paper believes that Roy Hodgson will utilise the £30million given to him by NESV in the January transfer window to buy Young and four other players. The Reds boss wants to add a homegrown contingent to the squad, and The People states that Hodgson will not be put off by the £14million asking price that Villa have put on the player. It is believed that Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham could rival Liverpool for Young but Villa themselves are keen to keep hold of the player and are hopeful that the 25 year old will sign a new deal to stay at Villa Park.

would be a great signing, just what we need, but alsoget diego forlan juan mata and ola toivonen and we’re back in business

  • Rick says:

Surely Young whould be a quality signing for the team, but maybe, the $14ml asking price tag put on the Player by Villa, it appears too high.
If it’s true that We have $30ml to spend, We can’t spend £14ml for just on player; it doesn’t look a great strategy.
I prefer to sign Brunt from WBA: He’s more versatile player than Young nad the price tag is much much lower than Asley Young’s price.

  • smarts says:

Get Ashley, Turan, Mata, Wolfswinkle, a left and right back

  • Mike says:

Liverpool need quality signings. Players like Wolfswinkel and Brunt first need to prove themselves on a higher level.

Young or Arda Turan would be excellent signings. Im afraid Llorente is too expensive but man city got a few strikers to spare for reasonable prices..

I think a manager needs to be our 1st signing.

how can u say this he hasnt even made his own squad its all rafa”s squad he just needs january to get what he needs then judge him we are not that far from mid table its only early, i know for a fact that we will string a few wins together we just need the true liverpool fans to get behind roy hodgson he deserves a chance give a english manager a chance instead of linking us with foreign ones id rather have roy!! get behind the manager and support the team alls they need is confidance and the fans shouldnt be the critics or youll knock them even more the papers say enough so get to anfield and sing your hearts out!!!! unless ur a fake liverpool fan… i have had enough of people so negative we didnt do this in 2005 istanbul thats why are fans are the best enough said!!!!!

  • vinod says:

we might get more technical gifted and talented players in turkey and spain…mata turan Ibrahim Afellay..ect all whose contract ends on 2012 and will be cheap

  • tee somethang says:

yes young would be good but not being managed by hodgson.please mr henry cant u see what u are doing to our team.u are now letting geriatrics who are clueless run the team, roy and his recently recruited keepers’s coach.pliz get us new manager like kenny or klinsman

  • hannah says:

    perfect

  • David says:

    I think Mata is perfect.

  • samuel charles says:

young if he gets his head up more and spots the pass and if he can add more better crossing to his game could be a good player.
but why would we pay more for young then getting mata or turan or any othet half decent winger, er ! becuase, yes because he is english and i would hate that lfc go out and pay for a player just becasue he is english.
    a. young has alot of work to do to call him self a very good player and for me id rather j, navas or mata or turan or even wing back

30 million to spend? Buy Affelay 10-12 million,or Eljero Elia similar price. Kranjcar from spurs for 8 million had a good season last yr and is creative. We’ve had no decent wingers for yrs and no point buyin a striker if there’s no service, same old story with us everything through the middle and too easy to defend against. 10 mill left over plus possible 10 from Aquilani go buy Forlan or Llorente 15 mill at most. Money left to pay off Hodgson and bring in King kenny or someone who the players will respect. We’re too big for Woy and he doesn’t know what to do.Even under Rafa we’d never be where we are now in relegation. Other option for money is sell Johnston good goin forward but can’t defend get 15 mill for him replace with contraou from Portugal and Kelly as back up. Extra money then for pricier striker or winger maybe Young instead of Kranjcar. We’d have choice of 5 in middle with Cole off Torres or a 4 4 2 with wingers mentioned or Cole on one side and Torres up with Forlan in free role just off him which he played well in world cup. With Llorente he could be target man to knock down balls to torres and also chip in with goals. With wingers mentioned there’d be loads of crosses and way more chances.

Affelay 10-12 million….??? talking through ur arse. His contract is up end of the season so he is free to speak to other clubs from January. So where the f*ck do you get that sum from.

  • Tilly The Cat says:

Let’s buy half a dozen wingers for our COUNTLESS big invisible target men.FFS.

    Sign 2 BIG strikers FIRST.

  • Greg says:

Ashley Young for £14 million? No way! He’ll cost at least 20 million. Villa (and anyone else we buy from in January) will want to test the depth of NESV’s pockets and demand the moon. I wouldn’t be surprised if we only buy a couple of squad players during the window, although as long as one is a backup striker I’ll be happy.

  • chunky says:

Check yr reports this morning. NESV have already said that there will be NO big spend come January.
Henry will oversee any purchases and refuse any attempt to buy older players at large fees! Villa are back to inflating their prices for LFC (just like MON and his tactics with Barry). In the £14M valuation is about 20% over-cost so a more realistic start figure would be an offer of about £9M ( settle at £12M ) if Young is who we are after.
Henry is more interested in signings for younger players who I suppose would gel in better with the up and coming likes of Kelly Jonjo Pacheco etc al. This would make sense in keeping with an eye to the next generation first team.
