This will be a crucial indicator as to where Roy’s team stands

|

After finally being able to watch Liverpool put in an impressive performance in one of the few times it has taken place this season there is a cause for optimism that the 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers could possibly be a catapult for a turnaround in fortunes for the team. The match wasn’t as comfortable as some would have hoped however it was a pleasure to watch our team play some scintillating, attacking football and it was a massive relief to see our prodigal son Fernando Torres finally net his first goal since August.

Nevertheless, with the season well and truly underway the games come thick and fast and our next test will be a crucial one aswell as being an arduous task. Bolton away is a match that straight away springs to mind the words “aggressive”, “battle of strength” and “scrappy.” When Liverpool arrive at the Reebok Stadium they know to expect a tough, hard-fought game and I believe that the game on Sunday will provide a perfect challenge to the character of our players.

A big performance is needed from the lads and whoever is named in the starting 11 will have to face up to a game where class needs to rise above anything else. Discipline will be essential and concentration will be the key. Hodgson knows it is time to deliver and he is likely to pick a strong eleven, an eleven which I believe will not be too dissimilar from the eleven that started against Blackburn. Although a fair few of our defenders are coming back to full fitness I think, due to Kyrgiakos’ man of the match performance on Saturday, Hodgson’s hand has already been forced and he has no choice other than to start with the powerful Greek as he will pose a massive threat to Bolton both defensively and in attack. The rest of the team should really pick itself with the likes of Raul Meireles, Fernando Torres and Joe Cole starting to find form and push on from their below standard starts to the season.

Now that we have put behind us the burden of picking up our first Premier League three points since August, the club can look on and look forward to a couple of tasty ties in the next week or so. After we have took on Bolton at The Reebok we face a tough encounter against Napoli at Anfield, a game in which we need to win in order to qualify through the group stages of the Europa League. After the European round of fixtures the Reds face the demanding task of welcoming champions Chelsea to Anfield. Steven Gerrard has, in the past few days, spoke about the need for Liverpool to put together a run of victories and what better way to do it than to pick up 9 points from our next 3 games and set about climbing our way back up the table and back to where we belong.

If the game against Bolton ends in a draw or a defeat, and it is likely we will loosse against Chelsea the following week, then Liverpool is back at square one.

  • Ken says:

Not if Roy sets up the team except Blackburn match. Bolton would make the monkey of liverpool. After all Roy has 35 yrs of experience to change much of his atrocious tactic, again except Blackburn match.
