TOP TEN Worst ever Liverpool players

|

I have attempted to set out a list of Liverpool’s worst ever players. I have taken a few from the Graeme Souness and the Gerard Houllier eras. If you have any other suggestions feel free to list them in the comments below.

1. Jean Michel Ferri – Appeared in only 2 substitute appearances against Chelsea and Sheffield Wednesday for Liverpool as Gerard Houllier’s first signing. Cost the club £1.7million from Turkey, he picked up an injury straight after signing. Despite this, he never had the quality even when fit and was sold back to France with Sochaux within a year.——

2. Istvan Kozma – One of the worst signings made in the Graeme Souness era, the Hungarian Kozma only made six league appearances for Liverpool but it was clear from very early on that he wasn’t good enough for the top flight. Touted as the new John Barnes, the midfielder was sold back to Hungary after a year at Anfield. Came 4th in a Times Online list of the worst players ever to play in the Premier League.——
________
___________

——————————-

3. Torben Piechnik – Another one of Souness’s insane buys, the Danish defender was totally out of place in the Premier League. He was given the run around by nearly opposition striker and was hastily sold back to Denmark when Roy Evans was appointed manager.

——
________
___________

——————————-

———————————————————

4. Paul Stewart – The midfielder actually had a successful time at his previous two clubs Manchester City and Spurs, but the £2.5million spent on him was an absolute waste of money as he scored just one league goal in 24 appearances. They only managed to shift the player for free two years later to Sunderland. Souness had compared the player at the time to Steve McMahon.

——
________
___________

——————————-

5. Sean Dundee – The South African born striker was bought for £2million from Karlsruhe as backup for the injured Robbie Fowler. He only ever played three games for the Reds though and his lack of pace and technical ability meant he was hastily sold back to Germany after one season in England.

Might have been a long-time Red but I’ve only heard of four of these players. *Humbly chastened*

  • stah howard says:

a few of these were not good buys but certainly not the worst liverpool players, paul stewart and tanner come to mind but there is a much larger list of those not good enough for liverpool fc and we have several at present, babel and lukas being two.

  • TSP says:

Anyone notice how at least 5 were Houlliers?

  • Ivan says:

Erik Meijer, Mauricio Pellegrino, Karl Heinz Riedle, Antonio Nunes.. Recently, for their age or for the cost we spend ot them, I would consider waste of money Glen Johnson and Koncesky

  • phatnek says:

bruno cheyrou, phil babb, bjorn tore kvarme, eric meijer, igor biscan, mark gonzales, lucas… why stop at ten. And i agree with Ivan. For a player worth 18 million, glen johnson is not good enough.

  • west derby red says:

Jimy carter was really bad yet he also was signed by arsenal. It must have been blackmail

  • Rusty says:

@phatnek Igor Biš?an had 72 appearances for liverpool over a period of 5 years. He played a significant number of games on the way to Istanbul. He was an unused sub on that night. He has a UEFA Champions League winner’s medal.

  • Jelili abbey says:

I too agree with ivan glen johnson, lucas, konchesky, poulsen all this are floop 4 historian club like liverpool. Mr roy using settlement btw konchesky&agger which can break a team.

  • a.finnigan says:

biscan euro champ don’t slag off the istanbul boys la no 1.roy hodgson hope blackpool beat us then kenny returns to goodison the last game were he managed lfc then champions ov england !Turkey necks DEAD, long live the KING

  • Morten says:

Can’t believe that people are actually hoping that Liverpool would lose. It has been a bad start to the season, but give Roy some time, there is no guarantees that he will be what we need, but let’s give him a fair go at it. Same for Konchesky and Poulsen. It’s sad to see that players are judged to deserve a place on a list of Liverpool’s all time list of worst players after only being at the club for a month or so. Seriously, if this is the attitude you’re going to have, find another team to support. Liverpool don’t need your lack of support.

  • Davie says:

Morten, spot on mate get behind the current players the clubs in enough crap as it is. Things wont change until we get new owners maybe then we can look at investing in other players?

  • Jonesy says:

how quickly people forget Oyvind Leonhardsen

  • Aje says:

Here’s a few more…Houllier is looking like having bought the most duds. Bernarde Diomede, David Speedie, Peggy Arpexhad, Djimi Traore,Julian Dicks, Jimmy Carter, Bruno Cheyrou, Salif Diao, Hooper, Kvarme, Leonhardsen, Tanner,

  • Chris says:

Look I think the worst 10 liverpool players ever are
    1: Lucas
    2: Lucas
    3: Lucas …

    You get the idea

  • zeid says:

    ome on stop this n onsense pls its lfc….bring in kenny,roy evans assistant,hel agree,steve nicol,steve mcmhon,j molby,ian rush and fire all staff except medical,inPEPE,JOHNSON,AURELLIO,AGGER,SKIRTL,KELLY, GERARD,COLE,BABEL,TORRES,KUYT,JONES,KYRYAKOS,CARRAGER,SPEARING,MIERELES,NGOG,SELL,KN CHSKY,POULSAN ,JANCOVIC LOL,MAXI,LUCAS, RECALL,AQUILLANI,…..INCOMEAROUND 25 MILION,,,NEW BUYERS DO THE MAJOR INVESTMENT….THIS IS LFC Y N W A

  • maca says:

try traore, carter, cheyrou, diouf, jancovic (headless chicken) lucas there’s been too many over the last 20 years. biscan was crap as well. give johnson a chance at least he’s looking a bit interested in playing for the red men.

  • che says:

most of our deadwood was bought in the Graeme Souness and Gerard Houllier days…
who is the dumb ass that put Igor Biscan in… he was played out of position for most of his time at the club as centre back by GH. when rafa came in he put him back into the midfield and he did more than a decent job as a sub… (idiot)
im not a huge lucas fan, but i will give him credit as he is constantly trying and i find this hard to say, but he was one of our better players last year.
how can you criticise poulsan? he actually had a strong game against Manu and he is new to the club…
now our current team has a number of superstars and great internationals, so there is no reason why we can not compete with any team. the issue is either the manager, managers tactics and the style we play, or the team hasnt gelled together yet… why dont you lot forget about the negativity the papers have to say and start supporting our team like you should. the only way out of this mess is to unite together… we are screwed by Hicks and Gillett, but we should always bond together in the tough times like we have previously… this is the LFC way…

  • kols says:

i am a spurs fan, and i think it is a shame what those americans have managed to do to liverpool, ruining this great club, it is so sad. but if liverpool goes into administrsion, rbs will acept a bid of what theire dept is, and those two clowns cant reject it. and i belive there are a number of byers that wait until 15th oct, to get the club cheep. and then take the club forward. as mutch as i like spurs, i would love to see pool win E.P.L. and still have the record. all the best. kols

  • stah howard says:

on the bright side if liverpool win today i think we will be 4 points behind man utd, hardly a forlorn hope.

  • m kop says:

Some people could lose their place in the top 10 with Hodgson now bringing in players!
