Who is that bloke apparently upsetting all of our players?

|

It was reported in the Mail on Sunday that Liverpool’s players are “aghast” at Roy Hodgson’s decision to put First Team Coach Mike Kelly in charge of training. According to the paper, Pepe Reina was especially unhappy about the former QPR, Wimbledon and Birmingham City goalkeeper taking him through his goalkeeping training routines. Whether it is true or not, what are the credentials of Roy’s right hand man?

Kelly started his footballing career as an amateur playing for Isthmian League side Wimbledon. After winning the Isthmian League twice, the FA Amateur Cup in 1963 and finishing runners up in the Southern League first division, Kelly opted to take a coaching qualification in 1965. At the Surrey Coaches Association, he met both Roy Hodgson and Bob Houghton, becoming close friends in the process as the SCA held meetings once or twice a month.

In 1966 however, rather than opting to coach, Kelly became a professional footballer spending four years at Queens Park Rangers as their goalkeeper between 1966 and 1970 as well as another six seasons at Birmingham City. After a year spent in the US playing for Minnesota Kicks, he returned to England to become Plymouth’s reserve team manager. He wouldn’t have to wait long to become manager of the first team though as in 1977, manager Tony Waiters resigned and Kelly took the hot seat for a difficult nine months in charge.

With Plymouth seemingly on the verge of relegation, Kelly resigned as manager and has never taken up the role as boss since. He would later only have spells as assistant manager at West Brom and Crystal Palace as well as a first team coaching role at Bristol City when he joined up with Roy Hodgson once again. In 1984, he was appointed England’s goalkeeping coach and kept the role until the World Cup in 1990.

Agreed I don’t think Roy can take the club toward, I can’t see why any big players would want to come and play for Roy with his limited tactics and his ludicrous after match analysis.

doesnt matter, just wanat a new manager is who can attract the bigger names, we will find it tuff going for the better players as it is, the new owners have to start acting soon, and very soon, we must be building behined the closed doors of the club in ready for the summer and jan window, come on lfc fans we all know we need at least 4 quality players at the club asap, in order to stop the bigger names thinking when are liverpool actually going to get going?

    i like the look of

COENTRAO- FAST LEFT BACK WHO CAN AND DOES PLAY AS A WING BACK.

    Intermission Over !!!!!

Anyway back to the article, have read about this earlier in the week and does not sit well with me. We have never had anything about the backroom staff aired in public, im afraid I have to say “Mike Kelly – WHO?” When we had Paco next to Rafa he pulled the strings with the team, i say bring him back. With all due respect to Sammy Lee, look what happened at Bolton.

  • Daz says:

Yes I am sure Pako would love to come back to the club and I reckon he would automatically gain the respect of the players. What a great idea..

    Pako

  • Red4Life says:

Cheerz Daz – Woy did quote himself as saying “judge him after 10 games”

10 games have long gone if you onclude the cup games

New manager or even King Kenny til the end and get Paco back from Spain

iv decided I’m going persue a career as a manager…

what il do is take a big team to the bottom of the table and then use my expertise to take us back up to say….. 6th or 8th?
then that will show improvement won’t it?
will get me another year surely?
I mean if I start in the top half of the table the fans will expect more and say the team iv inherited was then good enough… and I’m sorry but I can’t take that risk!

    I’m gonna need a good number 2 though… anyone?

  • Lfc4life says:

Samuel- Arda turan is currently having major problems at Gala he was subbed on and the subbed off, while playing well I hear…..

So if there ever was a time to go in for him it’s now….
oh but I just remembered that that won’t happen while Roy is in charge, Kenny suggested we get him last window and his response was iv not seen him play, so need more time to check him out… Even though Kenny had been watching him :/

  • Red4Life says:

Lol – Grandpa Woy should have gone spec savers if he hasnt seen Arda

  • Red4Life says:

He probably thought KK meant Asda
