Hughes: Konchesky sale was no loss to us

|

Fulham manager Mark Hughes believes the sale of Paul Konchesky to Liverpool has turned out not to be a risk at all. Konchesky’s replacement at Craven Cottage, Carlos Salcido, has had a good start to his time in the Premier League:

“We had a situation with Konchesky that presented itself as soon as I walked in the door. We tried to resist the attention of Liverpool and we did for a few weeks. But we realised we should look at the options and see if we could get someone in who wouldn’t weaken us. If I’d felt Konchesky leaving would weaken us, I wouldn’t have allowed it to happen. With Carlos (Salcido), having seen him play, the level he’s played at and the experience he has, it wasn’t a risk letting Konchesky leave. Now you’re seeing a player who really enjoys the Premier League.”

Salcido was bought for just £1.6million from PSV Eindhoven this summer.

Biggest mistake of Roy’s reign so far. Salcido look awesome at the WC and again now in PL. Konchesky has always looked average and cost 3m more. If he’d signed the CS i dont think he’d be getting as much stick as he is. Lets hope he spends January money a lot wiser.

Dont even think he would have been missed at LEYTON ORIENT

Don’t forget the fool Hodgson also let Insua go. A promising young full back who qualified as a home grown player. So it’s a double whammy. Thanks Woy – that’s what 35 years winning nothing of any consequence brings.

Right on! Now you watch him finalize a sale of Ince and Darby before the season is out. Two more young talents RH can’t seem to recognise.Naturally his excuse for them going will be “getting first team experience”…followed by ” not required”.

    swag,

he cost 3m more and 2 talented young player (one of which was Dalla Valle) absolutely garbage decision

  • J.C. says:

    roy is an idiot.

  • gary says:

Koncheskey looks as though he’s finally settling down. Hopefully he’ll get better and better. If he plays like he can (without the stray passes, and sometimes being caught out by a long ball to the winger) he can be a valuable addition

haha well PSV were happy to get rid of Salcido. An average and inconsistent player he is.

  • Eric says:

Fulham obviously got the better of the deal by selling Konchesky to us and signing Salcido for a bargain 1.6 million. Salcido played well at the World Cup and is an experienced left back and I believe he’s a better player than Konchesky. It was even reported that he was one of Hodgson’s target but it bemuses that Hodgson opted to sign Konchesky instead.

    • Eric says:

To add to that, Hodgson let our most promising youngster (Dalla Valle) join Fulham as part of the deal that took Konchesky to Liverpool and loaned out Insua.

    • Eric says:

      @Jay Wright,

Instead of opting for the 1.6 million Salcido, you would pay 3 million more for Konchesky and give away 2 more promising youngsters as part of the deal. And also, if you think Eccleston and Amoo are good enough then I honestly don’t think you know much about football. Perhaps you should go support Fulham or Manc Jay Wright.

  • Mike76 says:

I don’t feel he is a Liverpool player. Roy wanted a safe option and that’s what he got. A mid table player who is prone to glaring errors during every match. Very wayward with his passing too.

Just shows how far Roy has lowered our expectations. In years gone by, WE would have bought Salcido.

    Roy tactics are terrible too.

  • Soebi says:

bring hiddink to anfield please… 🙁

  • John says:

Roy scares the life out of me with his talk of buying 6 player with £30 million in January, can you imagine who he is looking at. Roy is a mid table manager and is struggling not being the under dog.

    • chunky says:

Yes.All the sellers of rubbish will be wringing their hands with glee and finding nights hard to sleep through until January window opens. The rest of the EPL must still be laughing their socks off!

  • jonesey says:

I predict that we will buy one player only in January and it might well be a loan deal BUT that would not necessarily be a bad thing anyway – in case you forgot we are no longer going bust so its been a bloody good season in my book p.s too early to judge the new players yet – stan collymore looked a world beater in his first game but that was it basically.
