A month that could define this defender’s future?

|

Seven matches in 26 days will surely define both Liverpool’s season and Roy Hodgson’s time as manager, but it could also be an important period for one Daniel Agger. The Danish centre-back has been sidelined with a calf problem since September but complications with the injury have seen him take a longer than expected recovery.

He was expected to return in the Boxing Day match against Blackpool but the postponement has delayed his comeback until tonight’s fixture against Wolves. Agger is expected to start alongside Martin Skrtel tonight in the centre of the Reds’ defence and it will be an ideal game to improve his match fitness. Getting a few extra vital days training after the postponed fixture, as well as playing at home against a side in Wolves who sit bottom of the Premier League, gives the 26 year old the opportunity to ease himself back into first team action.

With seven games in a space of a month, Roy Hodgson has stated that he will have to use all of his 18 senior players to get through the packed January period unscathed:

“My concern is the same concern many of my colleagues have – that the programme in January and February looks very hard to fulfil won’t use the term ‘fringe’ players because we’ve got a strong squad now everyone’s fit again, but certainly we’re going to need our 18 senior players who are experienced and ready to play Barclays Premier League football.”

  • King Kenny says:

Agger cannot defend, however he is excellent attacking. He should be used as a playmaking option in central midfield. He has a great shot, great passer and can score goals. He began playing soccer as a striker.

Agger should be sold if they can get the right money he is not on the park often enough for my liking.
