The People is reporting that Director of Football Strategy ’s long term future at the club is already in doubt. The paper believes that if continues as manager beyond the end of the season then Comolli could be out of a job in the summer. Although Dalglish is working in partnership with Comolli currently, the Scot is also working closely with agent in this month’s transfer window meaning the Frenchman has less power than he had under . According to the People, if Stretford continues to have major clout in transfer dealings, then Comolli’s role could become irrevelant, leading to his departure in the summer.

This week it is former Liverpool WAG Joanna Taylor!

Well although its early days Comolli has hardly done anything that we know of to justify his role at Liverpool so far!!

we are dragging our feet in transfers and offering silly low amounts that in the end annoy other clubs, who then wont sell to us. Just like rick parry used to do. We will miss out on much needed improvement unless this stance of negotiation changes

Oh just do what city do and pay over the odds just for the sake of it.

In the case of Adams he’s got less than 18 months on contract, so why should we be willing to pay over 10 million!

Again Suarez great player, bags of potential but playing in dutch league. So is paying over 20 million good business!

I think the club are doing the right thing, if you to except their evaluation every other club will do the same when we come in like what teams do when they hear City are interested.

Comolli doesnt strike me as the right fit for LFC if that makes sense. Tottenham fans were glad to be rid of him and he didnt exactly excel at St Etienne.

From what I’ve seen of him when watching the games he looks about as gormless as Woy did when he was in charge.

Unless Comolli does something that we can see and believe, I cant see how he can justify his role.

If someone could clarify exactly what he does and how it helps the squad, I’m sure we will all be happy for him to stay.

But going back to the article itself, theres no substance in this whatsoever.

Its simply more written drivel with no source, no substance and no grounds to go on. Pure speculation.

It is unfair to suggest Comolli has failed as we dont really know what money he has been given and you genuinely must give him a season.

Ok, the truth is that Comolli will not be replaced in the middle of the transfer window so lets at least give him until next Tuesday before we judge him. His strategy thus far seems a bit of a joke- why did he name two of our targets on French TV?- and if the bid reported for Suarez is indeed true then it is just a crazy way to go about business. But seeing as he will be in charge of all of this for the time being lets at least see what we end the transfer window with- maybe there will actually be method in his apparent madness. It is true none of it seems very inspiring from what we have seen but we don’t know what has been happening behind the scenes with regard to transfers. The fact that Liverpool are starting to release fringe players may suggest that a signing is near.

If this guy is in charge of transfers he deserves to be sacked like Roy. 6 days left of the transfer window and no players recruited to a squad desperatly in need of a striker, left back and two wingers. he then offers £12.5m for a world class striker?

  • Eric Says:

Liverpool should go about their business like the Liverpool way. That is, the manager does everything, including transfers. Should be up to Kenny as to who we bring in and who we sell, what is this ‘Director of Football Strategy’ thing? We’re into the last week of the transfer window and we can’t even bring in one quality player to improve the squad. We’re in desperate need of a striker and a winger. With Comolli here, there will be no players coming in this January. You don’t offer 12.7 million for a world class striker who scored 49 goals in 48 matches and 3 goals at the World Cup. Luis Suarez is worth as much as 25 million, if not more. Comolli is a clown and the sooner he goes the better, he has no idea how to negotiate and do business. I do think Arsenal and Tottenham parted company with this guy for a reason.

Comolli is doing what he was brought in to do over see transfers by negotating prices for possible transfers and scout top young players he has done the first part right he has made an offer for suarez at a price the club and both he and kenny think is a right offer if he went in with 30 million bid they would of asked for 40 million so let the man do the job . He will find top young players he found bale , modric and many more at spurs and the reason he left was harry wanted him out because he likes a piece of the pie . as for the article another poece of utter rubbish about liverpool fc by london press kenny wont have any say in comolli going or staying the owners will they hired him for a reason over the last 7 yrs we have made some poor decisions on buying players loosing money on deals

In all seriousness, who gives a frig wether he keeps his job or not? i dont really see what difference he makes to us, apart from the obvious negative impact he seems to be having on the Suarez deal, or is the low figure coming from FSG? Who knows? just sign him

Amazing how people are being so short termist. Ruben how do you know we only offered £12.7 million for Suarez? You don’t, you’ve just read it in a media which is anti LFC. Let’s get real here people Comoli, like him or not, was NESV/FSG’s 1st appointment and you honestly think they’ll oust him if Kenny gets the job long term! Seriously the amount of short term fixes I’m reading and hearing is a joke, there is no way the owners will sack Comoli just to appoint Kenny and if it is a power struggle then Kenny will undoubtably lose it. As for transfers the market is overpriced and we are not going to be held to ramsom, and rightly so, why pay stupid money for Suarez now when he could be 20% cheaper in the summer?

    [Reply]

    Eric Reply:

Cause we’re in desperate need of a top class striker now and 18-25 million is reasonable for a striker who scored 49 goals last season and 3 at the World Cup. Cause we might as well get him now and push into the top six rather than not get him and finish eighth and Torres, Gerrard and Reina all leave.

    [Reply]

    Yogi Reply:

Eric, let’s get one thing straight here if you think Nando will stay because we finished 6th rather than 8th then I strongly disagree. Nando will see who the manager will be and who we intend on signing before he makes any decision. As for Pepe and Stevie G I can’t see them leaving unless we have a mare and get relegated. If the manager is happy with Suarez then I want him, but I support the club 100% of not being overcharged, if you pay over the odds once you’re marked and every deal will cost a bomb look at City, £30 mill for Robinho, then £24 mill for Lescott, then Adbyeor, Milner and the list goes on. We need to show we won’t be held to ransom and if it means missing out of the Europa League good. Players don’t come to Liverpool to play in the Europa League and if you think our gems will only stay because we’re in the Europa League you’re very much in the wrong in my opinion.

well said. We all need to find a bit of perspective here. The point of Comolli is not just transfers (wheather he does well or not), but to maintain consistency of club philosophy, if and when the manager leaves or looses his job. If Comolli were in his job before Hodgson arrived well, he wouldn’t have. Comolli’s performance in the transfer market has so far not be adequately tested for any of us to know how he is doing, but his role is more than that.

The club have repeatedly stated that they are looking at a LONG TERM STRATEGY. For those without a dictionary that means having a plan for more than 6 months at a time! Sign Suarez or not. It doesn’t matter, as long as the philosophy of the club is maintained. And if you need me to tell you what that is, then you have more problems than I thought!

  • Mikey86 Says:

To be honest, once we have a chief exec and someone to oversee transfers, I don’t know why we need him.

I think originally, he was brought in as the owners were concerned with the amount of crap Roy Hodgson was being linked with and that was fair enough. Now that Kenny is at the helm and the owners know more about football and the club, Kenny should be identifying his own targets if he stays.

The problem with this sort of role is that it is new here in England and no other club really has this system in place. The second factor is that we can probably expect to be signing a lot of French players in the foreseeable future – the worrying thing is, we’ve now lost all our Spanish scouts (Spain are the world champions) and we’ve been down the French route before.

Correct me if I am wrong. Kenny knows more about football talent compared to this ‘young’ man.

NESV should leave everything to Kenny.

Save the money on someone who drag our reputation through the mud in the transfer market.

  • Yogi Says:

Roland whilst you’re right I trust Kenny’s knowledge of football more than “the dame” as Spurs fans call him the owners trust Comoli they appointed him long term, and don’t argue they appointed Kenny, he was the only choice if they’re going to be long term strategy guys (which they appear to be) so they could assess who gets the job in the summer (I don’t think it will be Kenny). So who will win the fans or the owners? I think we’ve been there before and got the answer, however I do feel these guys have the intrest of Liverpool at heart but they’ll keep Comoli and if that’s at the expense of Kenny then that’s what they’ll do.

As a previous poster said, quite why he’s discussing possible transfer targets on French TV is a big worry. Kenny is trying his level best to restore some dignity to the club and Comolli, in typical French arrogance, is damaging our credibility as soon as it’s being restored.

I’ve no problem with him negotiating contracts or scouting for the academy but his involvement in the first team is worrying. I wouldn’t exactly say his track record is impeccable either. Far from it. We’re at the start of a long road in trying to restore the traditions that made our club the envy of Europe and beyond and yet again there’s a Frenchman trying to do things his own way. A bit of humility on his behalf would be greatly appreciated by all I feel.

I think, with transfer windows as they are, a director of football (better still a good CEO) could and should be a very useful addition. In my eyes when the season is in full flow and the Manager is concentrating his efforts on preparing the team, he can hand a list of targets to the director of football who can work on pursuing them outside the window. In theory the deals should be all but signed the day the window opens. We are, however, 25 days into the window now with no movements other than outward. A bad reflection on Comolli considering the weaknesses in the first team are apparent to even the most untrained of eyes. I’m not being impatient because I believed him to be a poor appointment when it was announced. A appointment made by people without many contacts in the game. Had they contacts in the game they surely would have thought twice about his appointment. He’s not exactly revered anywhere he’s been. Even a google search would tell you that without needing extensive contacts in the game.

What we need is a good CEO capable of negotiating, what we have in Comolli is Christian Purlsow with a French accent.

Let the man negotiate, what is wrong with all the LFC supporters one minute we a paying too much for players and the next we arent offering enough.

This is why the January window is such a pain most teams dont really need or want to sell players so other teams can try their luck.

Look at Holloway, thinks he’s charlie big banana but when he wants a player he will be begging for the lowet possible price….hate to say it but Old Red Nos eis right for once.

Actually it was the best move for the club to offer a lower fee, if the player wants to leave he will now force the issue, and lfc can increase the offer slightly thus saving a large amount of money, on top of that I suspect the offer was a base offer followed by extras that focus on the future success of the player. Again a good move as we r not buying him from a top league and focusing on long term goals bit short term solutions, Ajax on the other hand are skint and don’t want to be seen by there fans selling too cheaoly, it will be down to who blinks first

My guess is that Comolli & Dalglish will both be here for a long time. These owners aren’t going to marry a manager like the last ones did, and then find out he has them by the balls. This will be a management “team” when it’s finished, and it will be young and dynamic. How many fans, who yap here, have actually seen Suarez play? The money does matter.

  • Andy J Says:

Everyone needs to stop moaning and concentrate on getting behind the players that we do have rather than worry about the ones we don’t. We all hail the return of the King and then completely ignore everything he says!

In time, Comolli with prove or disprove his worth at the club and only then will Liverpool make a decision about his future. In the meantime let them go about their business in the ‘Liverpool’ way. It will pay in the long run to be shrewd. If we make signings, great. If we don’t, so be it.

We have a job to do as fans. Take a long look in the mirror and ask yourselves if you are doing everything you can to get behind the team instead of picking out individuals to blame for lack of progress.

It’s becoming embarrassing how fickle Liverpool supporters are coming.
