Goal of the Week: Which is better, Guarin or Meireles?

|

With Liverpool’s Raul Meireles scoring a spectacular second goal against Wolves on Saturday, you would be forgiven for thinking that it was certain to be at least goal of the month or week, if not of the season, but this goal by Freddy Guarin of Porto may put a a question in your mind. He scored a 40 yard effort in a 4-1 win over Maritimo and he can scarcely believe it himself:

Raul Meireles is the Goal of the SEASON. Volley is hard to score, The ball was dropping and he smash it. Wonderful goal. for me its the goal of the season/Month/week/Day/Hour/Mins/Seconds

Paul – if you play football, you will realise that pinging a 40 yard screamer into the top corner is a much harder skill than a dropping volley (I’m a Liverpool fan, but that Guarin goal is out of this world)

Reminds me of a Clarence Seedorf goal he scored whilst at Madrid – a peach

Chegs i disagree, though u can say that a 40 yard goal is more unlikely and therefore more rare and harder to score, to score those goals all you need to do is kick the s**t out of the ball and get lucky. You can even see on Guarin face that he didn’t expect to score that goal. Meanwhile to score the goal that meireles scored you have to hit the ball at the the right time in the right place with the right amount of power and finesse on the ball. So i think that Meireles goal was a better goal because its much harder to score a goal like that than the one Guarin scored, (takes more skill to score those.)
