Why I fear that history maybe about to repeat itself

|

Since the end of the summer transfer window where Liverpool apparently failed with a last minute bid for Carlton Cole, it’s fair to say that reds fans have been eagerly awaiting the chance to watch Liverpool flex their financial muscle in the January transfer window. Heading towards the end of December, things were looking up in the transfer department with Liverpool dominating the gossip pages with some big name players being linked on a daily basis.

Throughout the first half of the season, it seemed as though after every disappointing result, Roy Hodgson would come out and state how much he was looking forward to spending money on quality targets. You could even say that waiting for our chance to strengthen in January became the theme for our season. It was hoped that we would show our ambition with a couple of high profile acquisitions earlier on in the transfer window but with less than a week to go until February we are still awaiting the signing of a new first team player.

We were always light in attack anyway but with Ryan Babel being allowed to leave and Milan Jovanovic constantly being linked with a move away from Anfield, you have to figure that Damien Comolli and the owners must surely have something up their sleeves with impending transfers into the club. There are of course still a few days left for Liverpool to strengthen but I can’t help but fear that history may repeat itself and that we may find ourselves failing to add to our forward line yet again.

from what i’ve seen by King Kenny as manager is that he sticks with the 4-2-3-1 system with all 10 players giving support to Torres, the formation that was also loved by Rafa Benitez..it’s a formation that suits Liverpool because we have a strong midfield but to play this formation you definitely need creative players with pace..Joe Cole should be playing yesterday as he is better than Maxi.Shelvey will have his chances but at this point the club is in a bad season and we cannot risk playing youngsters at this stage..Kelly is one great youngster who grabbed his chance and for me should be considered a starter..also if we sign Luis Suarez,i think his role would be left winger.Kenny likes the 4-2-3-1 formation and could play Suarez left or right wing.
    Reina
    Kelly Carragher Agger Johnson
    Lucas Meireles
    Kuyt Gerrard Suarez
    Torres
Also why does King Kenny bring Gerrard so deep.Steven should play behind Fernando. And what is more,Joe Cole should have chances or sell him.He is on a 90k wages and either play him or sell him…IN KING KENNY WE LOVE

    the asset stripping has begun.

I have to say I am not as concerned about this transfer window as many others. Yes I would like to see us bring in a top striker and a pacey wide man but I certainly dont feel we need to pay over the odds simply because its January we already are out of the running for a champions league spot and barring any real disassters europa league should be achievable even with our current squad. I never felt our squad was anywhere near as poor as pundits made out but by the same token we are way behind the current top 5. The only reason I would buy now is if we can get a player we genuinely want and would have pursued in the summer if we can get him now all the better but not at a hugely inflated fee. In the summer we can bring in all the relevent players we need and have them go through a full pre season as a squad and get them firing from the off and make next season our return to the big stage.

Forget Cole, it’s a myth that this guys is so creative and unlocks defences…all he does is control the ball on his right foot then run in a little clockwise circle in an attempt to shake a defender as the guy has no pace whatsoever. I don’t think I have seen him beat a man once since we signed him. Maxi’s contribution is ten times that of Cole.

Until we see some commitment from the new owners (and there are rumours that they are about to sell to another new owner) they are another pair of american clowns.

  • kopite says:

have you not heard what Kenny has stated today ? quote (the finance is in place it is the clubs not wanting to let there players go) unquote what dont you understand about that ? the owners have given the money to the club for transfers and Kenny has told us why we have not bought any one . Why should we be held to ransom if the people from lfc doing the deals thinks the price is to high dont you think we have been ripped off over transfers enough over the last several years 10 mill for diouf 22 mill for keane 18 mil johnson 14 mill gibrel cisse 4 mill plus two young stars for koncheski 5 mil for poulsen it is about time we made a stand on the price we want pay .

  • Eric says:

So John Henry spends some 150 million pounds on two players for Boston Red Sox but he’s not even willing to pay 20 million for Luis Suarez. Two months ago we were crying out loud for a striker and a winger and we were desperate for January to arrive so we can bring in some reinforcements but look at what’s happening now. The squad is already lacking depth and Babel’s sold, so I think somehow we need two attacking players to come in but I just can’t see it. A few days of the transfer window remaining and we’re not even close to signing anyone. Players starting right now are the likes of Lucas, Poulsen and Maxi. Do you think these players are good enough for any of the top six teams? Not signing some quality attacking players this January is becoming more of a joke and what’s more, with no new arrivals, I fear that we might be losing the likes of Torres and Reina in the summer. I’m actually thinking we should have considered the Singaporean businessman who was willing to invest 40 million in the January transfer window. Looks like with NESV, we aren’t going anywhere and since the start of the season, everyone was desperate for some quality players to join the club but 27 days gone in this transfer window, we’ve signed no one. In fact, we’ve let go of a first team player, our only fast winger. Funny how NESV can spend so much money on two players for Red Sox and not invest this January.

    • Chunky says:

Well they are only keeping their promise – a few weeks ago remember they said that they did not see any reason to spend in the January window. In keeping they haven’t! All this pussying around with some ridiculous low offer is a sop to fans and nothing more. The board knows they are not going to buy – end of.
We have to bear in mind that we are not as important as the RedSoxs. They are after all American, in their home town and a baseball team. That is something they understand well. All this is no surprise once we bought by yet another US owner. Oh we’ll do okay , amble along somewhere in the region of 6th to 9th in the EPL and await their offloading us to someone else who fancies a play around in this funny game they call “soccer”… Bloody sad!

  • Yogi says:

Keith grow up for God’s sake. If you don’t see that these guys aren’t the blabber mouths h&g were you’re being very short sighted. These guys have taken their time to listen to the fans, they’ve made no promises and they so far refuse to pay over the odds for players and I for one applaud them, £30 million for Suarez, £10 million for the kid from Southampton are you mad? Why pay over the top? I don’t care if we sign no-one in this window it doesn’t matter the best we’ll do is a Europa League place and I for one don’t care about that. And if anyone thinks Torres will stay just because we qualify for the Europa League is living in cloud cookoo land. Nando may well stay but it depends on who’s manager and who we sign in the summer. So we have from now until August to get players in who the new manager (I believe we’ll have one shortly but he won’t be announced until the summer) wants in order to be fighting fit for next season from the off. We have a window of opportunity here so why pay over the odds when we can probably get Suarez 20-30% cheaper in the summer?

  • kopite says:

Are some of you not reading the web site lads they want 30 million not 20 million and what ever the owners spend in baseball is not the transfer fee it is the whole thing inclusive of contract Ie wages win bouns ect I want suarez at lfc as much as you do but I have to agree with the owners and Kenny if were held to ransom over this every club will do the same as we have seen with blackpool why do you think none of the top managers have bought any one the over inflated prices yes we need a goal scorer and a midfield player and a left back but they should bought on our terms not what some team want to charge because we are liverpool fc and what make evry body so sure suarez is going to score in the prem like in holland look at kuyt

  • franco says:

i wish people would learn that US sport contracts are only wages and bonuses. 170 MIL is the very most they would pay the player if he stayed the length of contract and the amounts go up each year so if they get cut they dont get any near the full amount

  • zaim says:

i had this feeling since roy hodgson claimed liverpool might not buy in the january transfer window

  • Red4Life says:

Does anyone think the transfer side of things is taking us back to the Parry days of taking theur time and dragging ther feet then eventually loosing out on a signing to someone else?

Personally i have never understood Comolis role and an unecessary cog in the wheel, if they must employ a ‘director of strategy’ then get someone that is proven and wants to get things done quickly. So far Comolis seems to be a wet blanket with no negotiating skills if the Suarez and Adam deals are anything to go by !!!!
