With 3 departures, we need this Uruguayan more than ever

|

With three, potentially four forwards clearing out their lockers and leaving Anfield before the end of the month, it seems as though Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish needs to invest in a striker, and pretty quickly.

Nathan Eccleston, a player who has been used in several Liverpool games this season, has already been sent out on loan to Charlton Athletic. Following him temporarily out of the Anfield doors is David Amoo, who has joined MK Dons on loan.

Dutch international Ryan Babel has seemingly tied up the loose ends and will join German side TSG Hoffenheim in the next few days. In addition to this, there are reports today that Steve McClaren is looking to add Milan Jovanovic to his Wolfsburg squad, for a price of £6 million.

If Serbian international Jovanovic does leave Liverpool before the end of the transfer window, then it will leave the Reds with a strikeforce of just Fernando Torres, David N’gog and Spanish youngster Dani Pacheco with the option of using Dirk Kuyt up top if needed. Only untested Danish youngster Nikola Saric offers any other forward threat within the ranks of both the first-team and the reserve squad.

The sickening thought of a long-term injury to star striker and injury-prone Fernando Torres would leave us with a severely depleted choice of forward players. Therefore, it’s time to splash the cash on a goalscoring striker.

There is no guarantee the player would do the bizz in the prem, there is a list of dutch strikers that have’nt so can you blame the reds for being cautious with their cash. It would be devatating for the fans if we spent 20+ million on another R.B.

I as many lfc fans are not expecting much from the current owner.Suarez cost 25 million pounds and everyone has to agree about his skills.Suarez proved himself in the world cup.He is a quality striker and he costs 25 million pounds, nearly same price as man.c dzenko.Hicks and Gillets had the courage to buy Torres for 23 million pounds at that time.Henry is worst than the Hicks and Gillets.LFC NEEDS A NEW OWNER.

  • Nivster says:

… But he has also proved it at international level. He is the best realistic target we have got in signing a player in January.

It would have been nice to go for Benzema but Real need him too much right now.

Adam, N’Zogbia and Suarez are not lighting the world on fire but they would definitely add better attacking options for the Reds and in the Summer hopefully we’ll sign someone really ‘special’

  • Roy says:

Suarez, is an interesting option for us, could be perfect for Torres, could end up crap. No more than £15 mill. Up yours Ajax, greedy buggers! At that price theres plenty of top strikers. Come on you mighty reds.

VN (@5.31pm) you don’t know what you’re talking about.
As for Suarez, a class act and will be a great addition – at the right price. £25M is OTT as is always the case with this pointless January transfer window. Henry has already said the summer is the correct time to rebuild the squad and he is spot on. YNWA

Imran you may be right regarding summer transfer window but will anyone come if we are not playing in Europe? I say risk it and see if he can fire us towards the Europa league next season.

  • Chillpill says:

25 mill is too much..is he as good as Bent or better if so then yeah may be but we need someone. Soon

  • Yogi says:

I was waiting for someone to mention Bent in conjunction with Suarez. Well lets get things straight Bent cost £18 million, it could raise to £24 million but it’s an £18million + addons deal. Now when you consider Bent to Suarez who’s the safer bet? Sorry but it’s Bent, he’s a proven Premiership player which Suarez isn’t. Let;s remember Alfonso Alves was prolific in Holland and awful in the prem! Yet despite this some demand we pay over the odds and have a go at the owners! GROW UP WILL YE. NESV are nothing like H&G and anyone who suggests they are need to wake up or go elsewhere, we used to be noted for our passion, our patience and our loyalty but listening to the anti NESV lot I wonder how long we’ll be noted for this.

Selling Babel for as little as 6 million while keeping deadwood like Lucas, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Maxi and Ngog at the club is becoming a joke. Can you imagine what will happen if Torres gets injured and is unavailable for 3 weeks? We’ll have Ngog up front who has scored 9 League goals in nearly 60 appearances. 25 million for a world class striker like Luis Suarez is worth it, he scored 49 goals last season and 3 at the World Cup. He’s proved himself at the top level, helping Uruguay to the semi-finals. Right now Liverpool are not willing to even pay 20 million. What’s the problem with them? You expect to get a top quality striker for 12.7 million? Towards the end of last season, we were struggling to field a team with a proper striker and one of the reasons we finished seventh is cause we’re too reliant on Torres and Ngog can’t deliver. Now with Babel gone, we’ve only Torres and Ngog if you don’t count Kuyt. Imagine if Torres gets injured, our forward line will probably be Ngog and Joe Cole. It’d really be funny if we don’t bring in a striker this January and I’d like to see how we’d manage until the end of the season with 15 League games and Europa League games coming up.

  • Fidel says:

Lets just risk it and give this guy a chance. He’s a person who’s confident in his ability and really wants to prove a point in the prem. Buy him now because it will be difficult in the summer when every top team is looking to buy

  • norton says:

totally agree with fidel, buy now, this guy is worth the chance for 20 m, leave any other buys til the summer, but work on them now, i’d move for wolfswinkel, and we need some pace too
