5 Keepers Who Could Be Ready To Step Into Reina’s Shoes?

|

Whether Liverpool ‘keeper Pepe Reina goes or not at the end of the season, I would like to say for the record that he is a world class keeper and he would be sorely missed if he ever was to leave. Certainly there is no real evidence that Pepe wants to leave the club but with the past incident of Fernando Torres taken into consideration, nothing is certain in football, and Pepe could well be angling for the new owners to make their mark in the transfer market with his comments in a recent Guardian interview and on Spanish radio, or he may be uncertain about his future.

In any case, no matter the reality of the situation, the old adage of “no is bigger than the club” holds true here and many Reds fan will sight this saying if any of our big players ever decide to leave. Bearing in mind all these uncertainties at modern football clubs though, I think it would be foolish if we are to assume the Reds have not considered viable replacements if Reina decided to leave. Below I have listed the 5 goalkeepers I think should be the standby options if the Spaniard departs:

David De Gea – Although the youngest goalkeeper on the list, I believe De Gea also has the greatest potential. Still only 20, he broke into the Atletico Madrid first team mid way through last season after manager Quique Sanchez Flores finally lost patience with Sergio Asenjo after some high profile, costly errors. He was instrumental in Atletico’s Europa League win last season, and also was praised for his shot stopping abilities with man of the match performances against Valencia and Athletic Bilbao. He has been more inconsistent this season however, and after only having the number 1 for little over a year, it must be said he could go through a patch of bad form and lose his confidence altogether. In this light, without greater first team experience, he maybe a risk if he was chosen as the Reds’ first choice replacement for Reina . Rating: 8/10

Hugo Lloris – France’s international first choice goalkeeper, Lloris is supremely talented and at 24 years of age, he will only improve as a keeper. The fact that he is been playing first team football regularly for five years for both Nice and Lyon, also adds to his positive aspects. Again though, like all the keepers on this list, he is not perfect. Lloris does have problems dealing with crosses and especially corner kicks. In addition he made a big goalkeeping error playing for France against South Africa in the last summer’s World Cup. Lloris is however a great shot stopper, and has even captained France when they faced England Wembley back in November. Probably would be my first choice if Reina left. Rating: 9/10

the obvious best choice is that Reina stays 🙂

  • am sure[PEPE REINA]will follow the foot step of torres that’s why i always wrote to inform our managers to look for[REINA]which i always recommend -SHAY GIVEN-as a perfect replacement to -REINA-because -SHAY GIVEN-has premiership experience and he’s a very good shot stopper if not better than-REINA-.

It could be with Brad Jones going out on loan this week to get some much needed first team action that he is the first choice if Reina wants to go.

I never would sign a goalkeeper for 34 years … Given would be a good
substitute if desired. certainly the best option is De Gea, but I would like Igor Akinfeev security or the ability to Lloris, all
However, (except Stekelenburg) none of those listed are goalkeepers
ability to order the defense as is Pepe Reina, that’s something
takes a lot of experience. if Pepe Reina is gone, should do the same
with Torres and use the money to sign a goalkeeper to
    future (De Gea).
do not see why not on the list Sergio Romero, Argentina goalkeeper,
is an excellent goalkeeper in the 2008/2009 season was the third goalkeeper
    fewest goals in Europe.

Sorry David Reina has been reported making comments regularly this season has he come out and said look I’ll be here next season if the club wants me? Has he heck and I for one would demand he comes out and tells the club where he stands. As for Shay Given he’s done the same shoulder twice in under 12 months and when I say done it’s a dislocation, I’ve done mine 5 times in the past and once you do it’s always liable to go again.

Mike Arms that was funny, cause you can’t be serious Gulasi is ahead of him.

Skeletenberg is a shot stopper, under pressure hes suspect as he is to crosses, the premiership is a whole another ball game and he will end up like Sander Westerveld.

Akinfiev is a decent keeper has experience not that old

Lloris another reliable keeper but would cost too much.

De Gea looks quality but i still think ihttp://live4liverpool.com/privacy-policy/ts too soon for him he needs sometime to get more established.

Neuer is overated id still trust Lehmann rite now over him.

Firstly id try do everything i can to keep Reina happy and stay if we cant then i hope we get a big price for him he shouldnt be sold for less then 25 mill. Everyone seems to think hes going to Arsenal don’t right off Chavski, yes they have Cech but Ancelotti if hes still there next season will make a bid as he try to do last season because hes a huge fan of Reinas.

I think we should even look at Amelia AC Milans 2nd keeper who was linked to us under Rafas time hes young and a good prospect.

I think the club should look at Stockdale or even Matt Gilks as cover keeper they’re both decent prospects although i prefer Stockdale from Fulham they’re both better than Brad Jones……YNWA

Today I saw the match Italy v Slovenia, and Slovenia’s goalkeeper
(and udinese) samir handanovic seemed very solid, has only 26
years, it could be an excellent replacement for Reina, anyway, I like
    more De gea
