Bet on our players this weekend! Carroll at 15/8 to score today

|

Liverpool are not in action until next week as the Reds players are off on international duty with their countries for this weekend’s Euro 2012 qualifiers and friendlies. To make this weekend more interesting, why not bet on some of Liverpool’s players to score for their countries?

Andy Carroll – Wales v England – It will be a full house at the Millennium Stadium for this Euro 2012 qualifier and Andy Carroll is expected to start up front alongside Wayne Rooney ahead of Darren Bent and Peter Crouch. The Reds striker will certainly be an excellent foil for Rooney and after coming off the back of two starts for the Reds against Braga and Sunderland, he should be fit to start the match. Hopefully he won’t get injured again though, and I think every Reds fan would be extremely frustrated if he was to be sidelined after just only coming back from a lengthy thigh injury. It will only be Carroll’s second cap for England after making his debut versus France back in November, but you wouldn’t put it past him scoring today.

Lucas Leiva – Scotland v Brazil – The Reds player will probably start in the holding role in midfield against Scotland at the Emirates. Technically a home game for Brazil after opting to play most of their friendly games in Europe to accommodate their European based players, it will still certainly be an interesting encounter. Lucas said yesterday he may have to face the wrath of Kenny Dalglish if his team beat Scotland. He joked:

“I don’t think he will be happy! I think he is looking forward to the match as well and we were talking a little bit about the game. It is an important game for Scotland because they have a lot of respect for Brazil, but we know how difficult it will be because they have good players and play with more confidence. Hopefully we will have a very good match and win. That is the most important thing at the moment.”

Despite Lucas’s poor goal scoring record. Why not bet on him scoring his first goal for his country?

Raul Meireles – Portugal v Chile – The match is a friendly so expect the game to be pretty open, as well as being quite scrappy. With Portugal at home though you would expect a good victory for the Portuguese, especially as Chile don’t travel very well. Although Raul Meireles has gone off the boil slightly recently with both his goals and performances, he has scored 8 times in 44 appearances for his country, including this rocket v Iceland below, so why not bet on him to score?

Daniel Agger – Norway v Denmark – Agger’s Denmark are in the same group as Portugal but it is Norway who are top of the group after winning all three of their games so far. They have already beaten Portugal 1-0 at home and will be hoping for the same result against their close neighbours. Agger himself has only just come back from injury after playing against Sunderland last week, but he will most likely play against Norway today. He hasn’t got a bad record for a defender with 4  goals in 39 appearances for his country, and you cannot rule out a free kick or a long range strike coming from the Dane.
