Kuyt: Hat-trick was birthday present for King Kenny

|

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt revealed that the team’s performance against Manchester United was a fitting birthday present for manager Kenny Dalglish:

“We all wished the manager a happy 60th birthday and today was his present. I don’t think you could ask for more. We all signed a shirt for him on Friday and it was good to all be together. It’s good to see things are a lot more positive. It was great when our fans were singing happy birthday to Kenny and the atmosphere right from the kick-off was brilliant. They were right behind us and it’s great to have these supporters because they are a big help to us.”

Kuyt was also delighted with his first ever hat-trick for Liverpool which came against a team Manchester United, he had never previously scored against:

“It was an unbelievable day and first of all I have to say it was a great team performance from the lads. To score my first hat-trick for Liverpool against Manchester United, with the third goal in front of the Kop, was a very special moment. I just want to thank my teammates, especially Luis Suarez, who was brilliant. The first goal was unbelievable and Luis showed a bit of magic like he did at West Ham last week when he set up Glen Johnson’s goal. I wanted to let the ball go but I wasn’t sure if it was going in so I just wanted to make sure, but it was more his goal than mine. For the second goal I was just there in the right position and then the third goal was a special moment. Any hat-trick you can score for your club is special but to score in front of the Kop and celebrate with our fans was brilliant. It’s my first hat-trick since I played for Feyenoord back in 2005, but I used to score a few of them when I played in Holland.”

Apart from beating the scum and the final result the next best moment was the KOP singing Happy Birthday. KK’s reaction was priceless and summed up his affection to the club and fans.

Well done lads – more of the same for the rest of the season please.

It is surely only coincidence that Kuyt actually realised that even a player as ordinary as him can score goals in the Premiership by throwing himself for a change into the opposition six yard box when he and his agent are currently trying to fool NESV into giving him a lucrative new contract.
