The right decision for Dani, but should it have come earlier?

The decision to allow Liverpool midfielder Dani Pacheco to leave on loan for Norwich City can only be a good thing for the player’s development. Considering he hasn’t had a minute on the pitch since he came on as a 55th minute substitute in the dead rubber Europa League group match against FC Utrecht back in December,  means he should reap the benefits of regular first team action at Norwich and Reds fans will hopefully see how well the player plays in a competitive league such as the Championship.

Considering the Canaries are pushing for promotion and lie in second place behind QPR, it means that Pacheco will be going to a team on form and not struggling at the foot of the table, where he may have struggled to settle in if he hadn’t performed straightaway. He will have some competition in attacking areas though with Sam Vokes also arriving from Wolves on loan, but I have no doubt that he could be the ideal foil for Grant Holt in the last eight games of the season.

Holt is a typical target man centre forward and after following up his 24 league goals in League One last season, with 16 goals in the Championship this campaign, the combination of Pacheco playing off Holt could be enough to push Norwich to automatic promotion. Dani has the craft, guile and skill behind a striker to create opportunities for others as well as chipping in with a few goals himself.

He was the top goalscorer at the European U19s Championships last summer and many tipped the player to make the breakthrough into the Liverpool first team this season. He was given the number 12 shirt by Roy Hodgson and given starts against Northampton in the Carling Cup and Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League. His appearances were still rare however and his outings under new manager Kenny Dalglish became even more limited.
