Lucas: Young Guns were fantastic

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva praised the performances of John Flanagan and Jay Spearing against Man City last night. He told Liverpoolfc.tv:

“We know the team is missing players but those who came did so well, especially Flanno. It was a fantastic achievement not just for him but for the club who are looking to bring young players through. Flanno is a quiet lad but he likes to listen and ask for advice. Everyone on the pitch tried to make him feel comfortable. We tried to be positive all the time because we know how difficult it is to make your debut. He was fantastic.”

On Spearing, Lucas said:

“Jay (Spearing) is also a very good lad. I am more experienced than him so I give him advice in the same way I get advice from players like Pepe and Carra. He’s doing really well and is another player from the Academy which is what the fans want to see. Everyone could see tonight Liverpool are going in the right direction. I’m really happy with the way everything is going.”
