The Exciting Diamond Quartet in Liverpool’s Midst

|

So, Monday night was a somewhat spectacular return to winning ways for the Reds, make no mistake.  As the 2nd and then 3rd goals rattled in, I was chuckling to myself about how deflated and exasperated City’s fans must’ve been watching their expensively assembled first 11 get dismantled by four players who have been maligned in the past but who all have very similar qualities: Dirk Kuyt, Raul Meireles, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

Certainly, City have a far better (on paper and in reality) squad than Liverpool, there is no doubting that.  But what Liverpool had last night, was four players in great form – in an almost diamond front-four formation – that actually want to be at the club.  Contrast this with the three strikers Manchester City used last night, and the attacking midfielder David Silva from the bench, and you have four players who are very much only at the club for the money and – what I can only assume they were led to believe at the time – the easy success they were promised.

The contrast couldn’t be starker and it couldn’t be sweeter for Liverpool fans.  On the one hand, Liverpool have 3 strikers, each being as divisive as the other and one midfielder who was considered a ‘blind’ buy by his former manager; Hodgson having never seen him play or even scouted him before signing him.  This led to a number of pundits questioning the quality of the midfielder’s game.  Whilst, the three strikers in question are either thought of as not worth the money (Carroll), lacking quality (Kuyt) or just a liability waiting to happen (Suarez).  On the other, you have Tevez, Dzeko and Balotelli; considered three of the best strikers in the world (although, not without their baggage either) and David Silva, one of the few world-class wingers available.  City paid somewhere around £122 million for these four, whilst Liverpool forked out £78 million.  That’s a difference of over £40 million (or one Carlos Tevez).

Arra come on, you’re supposed to win your home games, it’s the away games that make the difference. They outclassed, -muscled and -fought us at the City of Manchester stadium, let’s not get carried away here!

Also @sam, surely it’s the height of laziness to suggest that the solution to our problems is players we’ve already been linked with.

Try coming up with something new…

Otherwise, I can buy a parrot who’ll do your job but will make it more entertaining.

Sam , wise up you’ve named 5 foreigners there, keep the majority of the signings british based, players who know how to battle and granted well need 2 top imports from abroad, lets concentrate on the league and FA next season.

I wish people woild stop churning out the names of players who turn out to be great in footy manager games.

great win but i totally agree Damo.

this win does not excuse the fact taht we lost to west brom last week which seems to have been ignored and swept under the carpet

I think Gerrard is on the wane and Kuyt has only a year or two left, Meireles is 28, not even mentioning the ageing and injury prone defence. This rebuilding will take more than a year lads!

  • James says:

To Jack if we had one more good left back we would have never over extended our defense. Having players cover out of position places caused a domino effect on our defense. Glen lb, Carra rb, and Aurelio mid was the damage with players rushed back after injury hurt. We would have used some players less hence less injuries. a whole world of difference in our team with one LB, two wingers, and one CM I see no reason not to have a top four come back next season with a little more help.
