Aldo: He deserves all the praise in the world

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has praised Dirk Kuyt’s contribution to the team. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, he said:

“Dirk Kuyt continued his goalscoring run in the win at Fulham, scoring in his fifth consecutive game for the club. The Dutchman is the first player to achieve such a run of form since yours truly back in 1989, and deserves all the praise in the world. Okay, so his goal was reliant on a bit of a howler from Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal, but if you don’t buy a ticket, you’ll never win a raffle, as they say. Kuyt got his reward for his willingness to shoot early. I’ve said this time and time again, but I genuinely can’t understand how anybody can criticise Kuyt’s contribution to Liverpool. Ever since he arrived at the club in 2006, he has given everything for the good of the team, and his attitude is fantastic. He will be brimming with confidence at the moment, trust me, and going into every game thinking he is going to score, and that can only be a good thing.”

Aldo also praised a couple of other players:

“It is fantastic to see the optimism ringing around the club at the moment, and the momentum seems to be growing by the week. Yes there will be setbacks, that is natural with football. But the overriding feeling is one of positivity, and the players are all responding. None more so than Maxi Rodriguez, who now has seven goals in three games. I have to be honest, there were times when I didn’t think he gave a lot to the team, but recently he has been superb. His positioning and anticipation in and around the penalty area has been different class, and he is getting his rewards lately with some quality finishes. You can see his confidence is flowing. He is not the only one, either. Seeing Glen Johnson back playing like the player we know he can be is great. Glen gives the side a superb balance going forward, provides genuine width and pace, and has been a massive plus point since Kenny came in. His response has been fantastic.”

Spot on comments here. In fairness I think the minority of fans who were shouting their mouths off about people like Kuyt, Maxi and Lucas have all been silenced now. Frankly if they can’t see the value these players bring to the team then they clearly know nothing about the game so can safely be ignored.

I am delighted that Kuyt and Lucas have got new contracts and Maxi has proven himself a terrific little player now that he is under the guiding hands of Kenny and Steve.

This is a team who, with a couple more astute signings in the close season, could really start to make their mark and push for titles once again.

    Exciting times…. AT LAST!

Kuyt and Maxi are doing well – at the moment. But only blind fools would think you can win a league if your players play well for only 3 months of the season.

Maxi has been absolute rubbish in a lot more games than he has been any good. That’s why he was criticised. The same with Kuyt; he was so poor for so much of last season and this season that he should have been dropped and he wasn’t.

We need a better squad so when Kuyt and Maxi etc.. are playing rubbish they can be dropped. And when they play well they keep their place in the team.
