Portuguese newspaper A Bola has revealed that Benfica are in transfer talks with Real Madrid over the proposed sale of left back Fabio Coentrao. The Portugal international has been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in the past, but according to the Portuguese press, Coentrao looks set for a move to Madrid. The paper believes Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira is in Madrid to talk about the sale and is insisting that Real meet the €30m buyout clause in the player’s clause. Talks are are said to be continuing as Madrid attempt to lower Vieira’s asking price.

I don’t think we would have paid 20 + million for Coentrao even tho would have loved to see him play for us.
Earlier in the season he said hed love to play for Liverpool but at the same time said hed also love to play under Mourinho and how can you not play in a Mourinho team, good luck to him.

Thats what ive been raving about since we signed Johnson as has Phil Thommo he should be played as a RM and could be the next Bale. I think thats why Harrys so interested in signing him again to do just that, but Kenny will look to keep him and get Kelly fit to play right back and Glen ahead of him. It makes sense and will save some money so we can spend it on other areas of the team.

he’s pretty similar to Riise, strong body and terrific left foot, can play leftback but even left wing, he’s perfect to playin the premier league and with only 13/15 milions we can acquire him, in my opinion he would be perfect for us without pay 22/23 milions for Coentrao that in my opinion is a very good player but more adaptable for la Liga

No no, i can give you my word, i’m italian and even if i’m a liverpool supporter i watch sometimes italian matches and i even if Vargas is not a great defender he’s surely better than Coentrao in the defensive midfield, in my opinion if we want to play a good football offensivly, he’s a great choice as leftback, in fact if you watch the better teams right now, they play with leftback and rightback both offensive, Barca: Alves/Adriano, ManU: Evra/Rafael, Arsenal: Clichy/Sagna ecc… i mean that if you have a offensive team (like we’ll can) you can play with an offensive leftback or rightback and the other one pretty offensive
No way is he better than Coentrao in the left back position, Vargas is a good left winger and would make a good wing back but he isnt better than Coentrao in that position, his defensive side is poor. Look at Evra hes good at the back and going forward as is Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines, i don’t want someone who is good going forward n crap at the back look at Clichy hes that kind of player but hes s**t goin forward now

We too should meet the 30 million but out clause and challenge for his signature!!! No point in adding 6th or 7th choice players. Coentrao could play left wing, wingback or leftback and that is the area that needs most strengthening in our squad. A centre midfielder who can pass is also needed. Keep hold of most of our squad that has featured under daglish and sell the rest. We should be top 4 if we can do the above.
Fabio Coentrao would have been my first choice for Pool, now i’d say Jose Enrique, along with Defour, Milner, Adam & Cahill
