Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport has stated for the second time in a number of weeks, that Liverpool are interested in signing Brazilian Starlet Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan. A number of Italian clubs are also said to be interested as the Brazilian youngster is losing patience with current boss Leonardo who has afforded him very little game time since his arrival as manager. The Italian report also states that Reds’ Director of Football Damien Comolli is particularly a keen admirer of the player’s talents after attempting to sign the player for St Etienne when he was at Vasco da Gama. So who is Coutinho?
The young attacking midfielder started out life in his native Brazil with Vasco da Gama. He made his way through the youth setup and immediately caught the attention of the club’s coaches for his ability to beat defenders and to play killer passes. A talented two footed player, he also loves to dribble the ball and he was seen as a very exciting prospect for the football club.
European scouts had already taken notice of Coutinho’s talent from very early on and a scramble for the player’s signature ensued among some of Europe’s top clubs. Real Madrid were rumoured to have had a bid turned down for the player, after even trying to tempt Coutinho’s family to move to Spain with an opportunity of employment for his father. Inter Milan were however the final victors and captured the player for €4million back in 2008.
