Liverpool have made an opening bid of £6million for St-Etienne winger Dimitri Payet, according to the Daily Mirror. The paper states the Reds are apparently £5million out from the French club’s £11million valuation of the 24 year old. They will “almost certainly” improve on their initial bid for the player, according to the paper, who is a favourite of Liverpool Director of Football Damien Comolli who worked with him when he was Sporting Director at the French club.

Better this than to overpay Downing but I expect some big signings too.
Payet is a big signing if we made it happen, just because its a 6 mill fee doesn’t make him an average player, did you see his performance against England last year. Anyways if we got him for 6 mill it would be an outstanding achievement from the club but it won’t happen, not for 6 mill anyway more like 10.
I don’t get what the clubs playing at tho, they didn’t want to pay 20 odd mill for Mata but would pay 18-19 mill for Downing what a joke, and Payet has a great deal of potential even if we paid the full 13.5 mill asking price……YNWA
Decisions not taken yet remember. Surely can’t mean to buy Downing and at that price! You could get about 3 Boudebouz’s for that money but then,unfortunately they would come with bags of pace and talent and that would never do would it? Who buys racehorses when they can have English carthorses???
