The Daily Mirror is reporting that Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing would like to link up with Andy Carroll at Liverpool. Downing is a good friend of Carroll’s, according to the paper, and has been persuaded that Liverpool is his best option after deciding to leave Villa. The move to Liverpool could come at a hefty price though as despite the player only having 2 years left to run on his contract, Villa are reportedly demanding £20million for the player while the Reds are only willing to pay £10million.

This week it is LFC WAG Clio Zenden!

  • we need the players that can make the difference on the pitch as [LUIS SUAREZ ]did also who will give all his best to bring lfc back to the big 4 this coming season.

    in kenny we trust ynwa

  • teddy says:

why not pay 20mill for mata? He is good in his crossing,he plays well on both sides just like nani, he can even score with his dribbling ability. I think kenny will sign him.

  • m kop says:

10 mil is his exact value.
I’d give them 2 mil. more based on his appearances, but that’s stretching it.

  • Kev says:

Adam ans Downing are relly suppose the be of the highest calibre ? … Really ? It’s not With that that we will win some silverware going back in the CL and win it. It s not because they are “proven” british player that they are Good enough to win CL… Which is our goal.should get rid of deadwood too before byuing player.

all you people banging on about getting gforeigners in instead like Mata – how do you know he would settle into the english game qucikly? Mata is a tiny fella, and would take at least a season or 2 to get intot he swing of thiings. The likes of Adam and Downing have premier league expereince and would hit the ground running. And this is a squad game so at the minimum, we would have decent strength in depth with these two

      • ad says:

Adam is a terrible player, he scored a lot as he took every free kick and every corner. downing is in the same boat. neither are any improvement on what we’ve got.

  • big red bird says:

Everyone here talks about buying Juan Mata. Let’s be realistic here shall we? does Juan Mata want to come to Liverpool? Next season Valencia have Champions League to offer…..what do we have to offer? like Kenny says “we’re looking players who want play for LFC”. Stuart Downing tick that box does Mata?

  • just pay the 20million and get downing

  • True ENGLISH Red says:

I am not downings biggest fan to be fair when he first broke on the scene he was the next big thing!! but injurys and under par performances have seen him get unnoticed but what i will say is the boy can play when FIT! he can cross and works the left flank well again when FIT! but as we all know you have to pay moe for british players and id like to see liverppol next season with a few in the starting 11 as we are in an english league:- so KELLY, GERRARD,CARRA, CARROL, DOWNING, ADAM, JOHNSON, HENDERSDON… then fringe as in spearing shelvy flanagan ect we are good to go ENGLISH TIL I DIE…. YNWA

  • True ENGLISH Red says:

    my team next sason:-

    reina
    kelly carra agger johnson
    kuty gerrard adam henderson
    carrol super”suarez”

but the likes of merieles downing ect getting there chance and not forgetting JOEY!

  • tony says:

    how can this be serious

  • mg79 says:

Why are people just accepting that £20m is the price? Never haggled for anything before? Villa are going through turmoil, how are their fans gonna feel if everyone is sold on the cheap? They’ll not announce it even if it happens.
Why would we pay £35m for a centre forward who attacks the ball with the ability Carroll does and then not see £10m-£20m as a sound investment to get the most out of him. We could always buy and Aaron Lennon who will look good and dance to the byline then stick it out for a goal kick, or we could buy Downing who may not be as flash but will give Carroll a couple of opportunities every game to stick his head on it with a decent ball into the mixer!
We are a TEAM. We have Suarez who can open up a tight defence with a dribble, Gerrard who can strike from distance, plenty of energy in midfield, now we need someone who can cross the ball from out wide!

  • ruben says:

WE DON’T WANT U AT LIVERPOOL

  • Tony says:

Downing is a good winger, end of story so get off his back you tools!!!

    • tom says:

agreed tony there arent many in the league that are as good as him.hes of a different class to say pennant who was a solid signing for abit, just because villa say 20mil too dosn’t mean we have to pay that, if the player wants out and we think hes worth 10mil then its probably gona be somewhere in the between.

      • ad says:

he’s a roy hodgeson signing. ie average. good enough for the fulhams/villas of this world, not good enough for liverpool. end of.

  • ad says:

i’m really worried, potentially carrol (£35m), henderson (upto £20m), downing (say £18m) and adam (£12m) for £85m!!!! not one of them players would get into any one of the top 4 sides. i thought we’d seen the back of these crap signings with the back of old roy, but it looks as tho the bad days are back again! can anyone honestly say they’re excited by the prospect of seeing any of these players on the pitch?

    • mg79 says:

How many players in the other top 4 sides would we be disappointed if we bought? You can’t compare any of those signings to Roy Hodgson’s. Hodgson knew what he was signing as he worked with them, and they were rubbish!
These can be the core of the team for the next 10 years. Unless we need to buy Messi and Ronaldo for a liverpool quality. Give them a chance!

      • ad says:

are any of them going to move liverpool fwd, admittedly henderson has the potential to, although he’s never going to be world class, he will be a good utility player, and carrol is a very expensive plan b, and may prove useful. we need players who are going to create chances and win games. non of the above players are match winners. from a purly cold financial viewpoint, how many people are going to rush out and buy an Adam or a downing shirt? no one. supporters love players like suarez, gerrard and torres. exciting players you enjoy watching.

        • mg79 says:

And then if we have a team full of those players, what will we win? We will become real madrid galactico era.
How many bought a Ronnie Whelan shirt, or a steve mcmahon shirt. How many really went to watch Dalglish pass the ball to Barnes or Rush, safe in the knowledge that Molby made sure we had possession in order to give the ball to those players?
Should Carroll get 20 goals this coming season and 15 are from crosses provided by Downing, Downing would seem cheap at that price.

  • Lewis says:

Jesus Christ some people are really clueless on here! Downing was the best left winger in the league last season and has been that too for 2-3 other seasons at Middlesborough too. He has outperformed Silva, Adam Johnson, Valencia (although he’s right footed) etc whilst playing in a poor team too. He was Villa’s player of the season, I think they know a bit more about their player than you or I and he obviously won’t go for less than £12m because that’s how much they spent on him when he had a broken foot! He’s worth at least £15m now (being English does boost that a little). I don’t see what people’s problem with Downing is? When Adam Johnson was at Middlesborough he was second fiddle to Downing and hardly ever got a look in because Downing was their top player, they were pretty much a one man team. Adam Johnson then moved to City for half the price Downing with a broken foot did to Villa whilst being MUCH younger too. Downing is clearly better than Adam Johnson but he does have a bright future (unless City ruin him). But at the moment Downing is an established left winger with PACE, DIRECTNESS and QUALITY DELIVERY. We haven’t had a winger with all those qualities since…well Kewell and he was injury prone!
Get Downing ASAP before Arsenal do!

  • Andy says:

You guys make me laugh. You want KK at the helm, but for what, so you can tell him who to buy! He’s been in the game longer, at a higher level than you. If he says Downing is who he wants, then I trust him and support him and the price is irrelevant. I wonder how many of you would have back in the 70 gone Keegan who! From where, Scunthorpe – lmao In fact, I bet most of you wouldnt have picked Dalglish as his replacement. You’d probably just have said, good player in a bad league. This is Liverpool. Support your manager. It was only last season you were crowing about signing Joe Cole.

  • Christian says:

Pfft! £10 million at the very most!he’s a decent english footballer!but £20 million is overprizing him quite much! for £20 million we could have Cazorla or Mata on the left side!but I wouldn’t be that dissapointed if we got downing for £10-12 million! but just let King Kenny do his thing! I think he knows what he’s doing 😉

  • Dayo says:

I think Cazorla is a better option here….leave Downing alone its does worth the Money……get Adams and Gago soon. and Jeffren will be a good attacker. Up Reds.

  • Lewis says:

Downing > Cazorla. He outperformed Cazorla whilst playing in a much tougher league and for a weaker team. Also, Cazorla is one of those that always cut in, we don’t need another Joe Cole, Maxi and Kuyt. We need an out and out winger with PACE and whom is direct. Downing is that, Cazorla isn’t. He’s a very poor man’s Iniesta, not a winger.
