Over the years, Liverpool Football club had some astonishing bargain buys. Much of the credit has to go to Liverpool’s scouting team and the Reds’ Chief Scout in the 70s Geoff Twentyman who earned the trust of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan for his ability to scout excellent players. Many on the list are from those times but there are a couple of modern day players. Have I left anybody out? Write in the Comments section below.

    Not a bad list, but I wouldn’t have thought 110,000 was a bargain buy for John Toshack mate. Even for an international it was a fair amount of money for the time (November 1970).

    We only paid 110,000 for Alan Hansen seven years later (September 1977).
