Why the sky’s the limit for Liverpool next season

A thrilling season for Liverpool this year, winning the ‘Who Doesn’t Go to the Europa League’ race against Tottenham, selling £50 million pounds of dead weight before signing £35 million of injured Geordie, Kenny Dalglish pulled out a miraculous 34 points from 18 games at the end of the season with the help of Luis Suarez and the Liverpudlian youth legion. With the seemingly bottomless pockets of the Fenway Sports group to draw money from, it looks like King Kenny can mount up a title challenge once more, or so Suarez believes.

Don’t the wrong impression here, Fernando Torres was, and will soon be again, one of the greatest strikers in the world, his time at Liverpool should be held in the highest regards and the acquisition of Andy Carroll could prove a great signing yet, with overpriced teens very much in fashion at the moment. A title challenge though? Seriously? It seems only last year a top four finish was assumed and that again they could mount a march on the title.

It seems only last year because it was last year. Last year Anfield seemed aflame with anticipation, new management, a fit Torres, a fit Gerrard and a prime time to be clinching a 19th title, by the new year, Torres was gone, the new management was gone, and Gerrard was injured and Anfield was awash with disbelief and relegation fears, absolutely unheard of in Red country. What that heeds is consideration of position and cock surety.

After this season disappointing title fight, a veritable “he’s behind you! No wait, they just gave away another 4 goal lead, never mind.” In all honesty and hindsight I can muster, Manchester City never really looked like they would win it, some great signings made in David Silva and Yaya Toure though, Chelsea just never seemed potent enough to snatch it, Arsenal pretty much gave up when the going got tough and, solely in my opinion, Manchester United trundled over the finish line with their gritty never say die attitude that annoys the rest of the league.

None of these teams really deserved the title, they all had some great moments, some really great games and some top quality management, why we say goodbye to Ancelloti is beyond me, and if we’re looking at who should have won on effort and commitment and just plain valour, then it’s Blackpool. However the Premier League is not measured in valour, its measured in points. That’s why Manchester United rightfully won their 19th title, Blackpool were relegated and nestled in 6th place were Liverpool.

The main problem for Liverpool is other 19 teams who against ManUre aren’t surely have a fighting spirit. They looks like a small team who face the giant! Typical!
