have had some great defenders over the past few decades which have helped the club to unparalleled success. Players such as Ron Yeats, Tommy Smith, Alan Hansen and Phil Neal have really been the building blocks of both Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley’s trophy winning sides. There are however, especially over the last 20 years, a fair few defenders that have fallen way below the standards expected in a Reds shirt. Many of them came in the reigns of Graeme Souness and Roy Evans, and the lack of solidity at the back contributed heavily to ’s decline during the 90s.

    insua – dossena – risse – konchesky – poulson no i cant its too depressing – am i the only one who gets his hopes depressed as soon as setting eyes on poulson, i dont think its entirely him but its the memories of the utterly useless hodgson he brings back to me.

        it’s john arne riise, born 24 September 1980 in Ålesund, Norway) is a Norwegian footballer who currently plays for Fulham. Riise spent seven years playing for Premier League side Liverpool before moving to Roma in 2008.
