With Liverpool attempting to offload a few fringe players before they bring in any more signings, I am fully aware that the Reds may not have the time or the money to bring in more players before the end of the transfer window, but in an ideal world, there are two players I would like the club to sign from French club Lyon. Both young and with bags of ability, it is also interesting to note that Lyon are going through some financial difficulties at the moment. Lyon advisor Bernard Lacombe said a couple of weeks ago:

“There is no point waiting for us to spend large sums on top-level players because we simply cannot afford it now.”

Meaning that probably they would look to sell some players in order to target others:

Aly Cissokho – The Reds were heavily linked with the French full back in the French press at the start of last month, but speculation has cooled in recent weeks. Despite being a primary area where the Reds needed to strengthen this summer, the Reds have failed to bring in a left back so far. They did bid for Liverpool’s Gael Clichy, but eventually lost out to Manchester City. There has been strong interest in Jose Enrique, and Newcastle are prepared to let the Spaniard go after he refused to sign a new contract, but the Reds seemed to be reluctant due to either the player’s asking price or reservations about the player’s defensive ability.

With other left back options in the Premier League limited, the logical result would be for the club to look abroad. Even in Europe there are a lack of decent left back options, and with Fabio Coentrao departing Benfica for Real Madrid, the only other player available for a decent price is Lyon defender Cissokho. This is hardly a ringing endorsement of the player but available for around £9million, and a strong and athletic player, Comolli and Dalglish should look to reconsider looking at the 23 year old.
