Liverpool have had their fair share of poor goalkeepers over the years, especially in the last two decades. The Reds may have a great man between the sticks in Pepe Reina currently, but for a long time before they found the Spaniard, they struggled to find a decent replacement for Bruce Grobbelaar. The Reds have had true Anfield greats in Clemence, Lawrence, Scott, Grobbelaar and Reina in goal, but they have also had some not so great ‘keepers too.

why is it that when artcles like this are written it’s always a player from the modern era who’s considered the worst player, which says more about the person producing the list than they realise. Shankly took over a 2nd division Liverpool side, does it not stand to reason that the worst goalkeeper or player would have played at that time.

How can an international player with European experience, with greater methods of testing and recording fitness levels, better knowledge of dietary needs be worst than a 2nd division player.

This is just a dumb article, full stop. Apart from James and Vesterveld, you’ve managed to name a bunch of back-up keepers, none of whom spent any significant amount of time-if any-as a first choice.

And shall I also remind you that DJ and SV may not have been in Clemence’s or Raina’s class, but they certainly are not the worst keepers in LFC’s history I’m sure.
