5 Key Questions as Liverpool head into the Spurs Game

1) Who will deal with Gareth Bale? – Martin Skrtel has played the last 2 matches at right back and has looked comfortable, but he hasn’t been up against a player like the Welshman, and I feel that if Martin Kelly is ready to go, Kenny will opt to choose the youngster ahead of the Slovakian both because of his greater pace, and the fact he is more comfortable in the position. The big question becomes though: what happens if Dalglish deems Kelly not fit to start? Do you start with an inexperienced 18 year old John Flanagan at right back which would have the potential of destroying the youngsters confidence if he is ripped to pieces, or do you go with the ever reliable Skrtel? The Slovakian would certainly be the better bet in my opinion.

2) Will Carroll Start? – Considering he hasn’t started in Liverpool’s last 2 games against Stoke and Bolton, it would be sensible to assume that Carroll will not start against Tottenham on Sunday. It is very hard to guess King Kenny’s team selection though, and I wouldn’t rule out Dalglish picking Carroll ahead of Dirk Kuyt if he feels that the Spurs can be got at aerially. Considering the great rapport that Kuyt and Suarez have struck up, it would be harsh on the pair to split them apart.

3) Will Bellamy Start? – The 32 year old made a good cameo appearance when he came on against Stoke last week and looked dangerous going forward. In another article this week, I have advocated with starting a front three of Suarez, Downing and Bellamy against Spurs for the simple reason they bring a great deal of pace to the attack, and could be lightning quick to punish Tottenham on the counter attack when they lose the ball going forward. It really does depend on how Kenny wants to set up, either staying with a 4-4-2 formation and play like for like against Spurs, or revert to 4-2-3-1 to ensure possession of the ball and break with speed.

I certainly hope that Bellamy starts. He’s a player that could really make the difference in a potentially open game like this.

Why are you wasting your time on suppositions, remember they are playing Tottenham, not a team like Wigan for instance.

kuyt to start, 4-2-3-1 with bellamy replacing him off the bench. keep the pace for when they’ve been knackered out by suarez, downing and kuyt chasing everything. and i’d be tempted to star gerrard and let henderson replace him at half time. get a straglehold in the game first. if we get a goal ahead put carrol up top and let him bang a few heads!
