Dalglish may find he can’t leave him out of the Starting XI

|

Craig Bellamy’s man of the match performance against Brighton highlighted exactly why he was brought back to Liverpool by Kenny Dalglish. The Welshman’s link up play, movement and pace made him Liverpool’s brightest spark on the night and his performance served as a case for him to be included in the starting line up for the next game.

I realise that the opposition was Brighton but no one can deny that they at times put Liverpool under some real pressure, especially in the second half. One of the reasons I was so happy for Liverpool to have signed Bellamy was because I believe that he and Suarez could potentially make a deadly strike partnership. Obviously there will be occasions where a big man like Andy Carroll will be needed up top for his physical presence but for the games where we expect to be on the front foot for long periods, a Suarez-Bellamy partnership could do some serious damage.

The Brighton game gave us a little glimpse of how well the two intelligent forwards would work together and it is fair to say that it looked promising. I loved seeing Bellamy use his pace to tear into the Brighton defence while Suarez was unlucky not to have scored on the night. They combined well for the goal through Suarez’s perfectly timed pass and Bellamy’s excellent finish from a tight angle, and I believe that if given enough playing time together, the two can potentially become Liverpool’s main strike partnership.

I haven’t lost faith in Andy Carroll, who is struggling a bit at the moment but whose value to the squad will become more obvious when some of the more tough and physical away games start piling in throughout the season. For the time being however, I can see a great opportunity for Craig Bellamy to become one of Liverpool’s key attacking outlets along with Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez. The Welshman may be 32 but he still has enough pace to trouble the meanest of defences and for a squad such as Liverpool’s (which you wouldn’t call the quickest lot of players around), Bellamy could prove vital.

With Gerrard finally back and Suarez continuing to play a major part in every good thing Liverpool do, I believe that a player of Bellamy’s type would further compliment the team and it should only be a matter of time before Dalglish finds that he can’t leave the talented Welshman out of the starting XI.

To be honest with Bellamy back we don’t need to waste space with Carroll. The latter can be dropped to the reserves to be given some much needed coaching!
