Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard that Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates will be a tremendous asset to the club. He told Liverpoolfc.tv:
“He’s young and still has a lot to learn, but what better three centre-halves to learn from as a young lad than Carra, Agger and Skrtel? He’s come here on the back of a fantastic tournament at the Copa America, so his confidence is high, and he’s got Luis to help him settle. It’s a good acquisition.”
Gerrard also feels Uruguayan compatriot Luis Suarez could become an all-time great at the club if he stays at the Reds for a long time:
“I don’t see why not. He’s still young enough and I’m sure he’s going to get even better than he is now, which is a scary thought. He’s got the appetite for the game to learn and get better. Hopefully he will go on here for a long time because he’s certainly got a massive part to play at this club in the future – the history is there to be written.”
