Let’s Use This Press Negativity To Create a Siege Mentality

|

There have been a few stories popping up around the internet and on TV (or should that just be SSN?) lately regarding Liverpool and, unsurprisingly, they have been fairly negative. As was already written about on live4liverpool on Thursday, Andy Carroll has been the subject of stories this week from topics that range from his weight to his drinking habits to his fitness levels. Sure, they’re all interconnected but from a small amount of dialogue on the subject of Carroll the press have construed any number of issues and rounded off the International week by trying to have a face-off between Dalglish and Capello, just to put the cherry on top of the cake.

Furthermore, today the press have jumped on comments by Luis Suarez that he doesn’t need a rest and, in fact, is only propelled on by winning to play even more and that the Liverpool fans and the success of his club and country make the concerns of fatigue null and void. However, as with the story over Carroll, the media have twisted this to fit in with headlines along the lines of ‘Dalglish and Suarez butt heads’ and ‘Suarez and Dalglish clash’. The reality is actually nothing of the sort. Suarez didn’t even hint at any disrespect for his manager, he simply stated that he is still only 24 and he isn’t worried about his fitness. But causing awkwardness between Liverpool’s new star and their manager is a much more interesting story.

Now, I’m not suggesting any conspiracy theories here because, quite simply, this has happened a lot in the past and the press do not mask the intent behind such stories in the slightest. Going back to the summer and after a few weeks we had the questions about why we had yet to splash out. Then, once we did, we had criticisms of the types of players we were signing. Then once those players fit in and we take 7 from 9 in our first 3 games, they start saying that top players will miss out and try to disrupt the harmony of the squad and club.

I guess the press are use to Liverpool being source of trouble and discontent so they can not live with new peaceful and positive atmosphere about the club.
They didn’t mind Carroll at Newcastle.

They need something bad to right about LFC.

The press will never forgive us for destroying the Sun on Merseyside because they know if they step out of line it could be them. And as 75% of the media is owned by News Corp they are the biggest culprits for the trouble making that goes on, the rest just cut and paste. I wish we could take a stand against Sky but it would never happen.
