Think of it as £12m added to the kitty to buy big next year

When asked about the rumour that Liverpool had some agreement with Lille over the sale of Eden Hazard in exchange for the loan of Joe Cole, General Manager Frederic Paquet said:

“There is no link between Joe Cole and Eden. There has been no discussion. We know Eden Hazard is interesting some of the best clubs in Europe, but he is here and part of the project.”

You could look at this comment two ways: 1) you could take as face value or 2) that Lille wouldn’t discuss such matters even if any agreement was in place.

It is one of those pieces of speculation which may rumble on until the end of season when Hazard will probably decide to move on from his French club. Teams such as Real Madrid and Barcelona would still be favourites but the rumours of an agreement between the Reds and Lille over Hazard will give many Reds fans hope nonetheless.

With the departure of Raul Meireles to Chelsea, it means the Reds do not have the abundance of riches in central midfield they once had. There is still of course a good deal of creativity from the likes of Gerrard, Adam and Henderson but I feel that with the departure of the Portuguese player to the Blues, the Reds may feel they would like to strengthen this position either in January or in the summer. There is a position to be filled for an attacking young creative midfielder in my view.

The £12million for Meireles could be added to the transfer kitty to find such a player, and of course Eden Hazard would be the top of many people’s wish list, perhaps even Comolli and Dalglish’s, and there can be no surprise that the Belgian starlet has been linked to Liverpool.

Especially if Liverpool do qualify for the Champions League next summer, the Reds will be in a much stronger position to negotiate for prospective young talent and some bona fide foreign stars.

I can imagine that the likes of Hazard, Mario Gotze of Borussia Dortmund or a young Spanish star like Sergio Canales maybe talked about next summer, but alas, such talk is for next summer, rather than now. I think most fans have had enough of transfer speculation and rumours for a while, and will be glad to focus on the season ahead to see what this new Liverpool side can do with all its new signings.

Have some faith in Shelvey. Looks the part

    • the big man says:

I liked Shelvey at the start but the more i see him the less impressed i am with him.

I’ve never seen a footballer put such little effort into winning the ball back, he should take a leaf out of spearings book if he wants to be a success

‘Abundance of riches on the bench’ would probably be more accurate because he was clearly no longer considered a starter in my opinion. Especially with Stevie on his way back. I think another midfielder or winger is still proably needed to provide nessesary cover in January. Hopefully he will be more willing to retreive possession when we lose the ball than Mereiles as well as providing his undoubted creative spark.

You say most people have had enough of transfer speculation.. So, what was this article if not transfer speculation??

  • A decent right winger, either Adam Johnson or Eden Hazard
Promote Suso and Cody from reserves maybe Morgan and Stirling
Add pre-contract freebie Gary Cahill and that is the Title won !!

  • Navin says:

That £12million has to contribute to January spending, not next summer’s. A tough tackling midfielder or another creative midfielder/winger should be on the cards IMO.

We need to spend again in january for cover on RW and get a new CM either a tough tackling powerhouse or a creative spark. I would love Aquaman to get called back from the loan and have him sit behind the striker/s.
    ROLL ON JANUARY!!!!!

We desperately lost out on Park Chu Young, as many ppl say he’s not good enough for LFC…Well,I’m still depressed we haven’t won the league in 20 years, so it really doesn’t matter who we think is not good enough! Once they prove it on the pitch then they’re good as goal and Park would have been money well spent (3 beautiful goals against Lebonon today) and much more active around the pitch and box than Bellamy would’ve been! Meireles had to go, but the last thing we need is another midfielder! We need that Chicharito factor and Park was the best choice gone! 🙁
LFC have a wonderful team, and once they gel and hopefully avoid major injuries, we CAN win the league! Just hopefully they focus on LFC and not the Manc Teams as we’ve done over the past few years beating them in league play!

We don’t need any more central midfielders what we do need however is an out and out right winger. You could also argue for another striker….we only have the three ( not really counting kuyt at present)

  • Ashole says:

A top class right winger, a top class striker and the league is ours!!!

  • M. says:

We need proper right winger, a ball playing attacking mid-fielder/forward to play with/replacing Suarez & a goal scoring striker (Not basket ball center:()

I think, come January, we must target Affaley and/or:( Zarate & if money is still available for a proven goal scorer, Mario Gomez or Klss Hunteler.:)

  • Watson Red says:

All we need in January window is:
Gary Cahill – £5m (or sign pre contract agreement for summer)
Adam Johnson or Eden Hazard £15-20m
    Daniel Sturridge – £10m

Gives us plenty of cover in all area’s of the pitch.
    Cahill will be Carraghers replacement
Adam johnson/ Eden Hazard will add more threat
Sturridge will challenge for starting XI now but will be a regular in the future.

    • shaunymo says:

hmmmm…If Cahill comes in, whats the point of having Agger,Skrtel, Coates, Wilson hopefully Wisdom etc….and there’s Carra whos still got 3-4 years left….Liverpool is done with CB’s for a long time!
Johnson and Sturridge (Kenny should have asked/accepted for him in the Torres deal) are right choices!
