Three Games that could help define Liverpool’s season

|

A lot has been said about Liverpool’s disappointing home form in the Premier League recently. Successive draws against Norwich and Swansea, two sides who were only promoted last season, have caused many pundits and journalists to question whether the Reds have the firepower and consistency to achieve their target of a top four finish.

With points dropped in those supposedly ‘easier’ games, Kenny Dalglish and his players must now move on and focus on the tasks ahead. They now face three crucial fixtures in two competitions which could go a long way to defining what sort of season they have.

They have ground to make up on the teams above them, and two very difficult league games in the near future which could see them drop further behind. This is why it is crucial they take something from both fixtures. Worryingly, those fixtures are away to Chelsea, and at home to Manchester City.

It is easy to point out that Liverpool won both of those fixtures last season, but a lot has changed since then. The matchwinner at Stamford Bridge in January, Raul Meireles, has now moved to the Blues, and the Manchester City side that was hammered 3-0 at Anfield in April has been significantly strengthened.

As if that wasn’t enough, just two days after league leaders City visit Anfield, the Reds must travel back to London to face Chelsea again in the League Cup quarter-finals. I am currently studying Sports Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire. I have recently finished my first year of the course, and I am hoping to hone my skills by writing pieces for live4liverpool.

I have supported Liverpool since the age of 6, and in that time my favourite player has been Robbie Fowler. My favourite match was the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan.

Why is Dalglish Complaining now? He has always talked about depth in the team with his £100mill players. Now is the TIME to test that DEPTH. Time to enjoy some nice soccer. Nice Fixtures…..let’s see who shines among d English Flops.

    Dear Sean Mullen,

Upsetting the odd is a blind hope. kK is already crying because he sees embarassments for his team coming. I wont have to blame the players now, but he can blame the fixture timing and the FA.

He has significantly weakened rafa benitez core with his mid table mind buys in the summer. We are even now a lot slower in the midfield, so the attack is not getting enough time on the final ball to finish properly hence the missed chances.
