As yet another star emerges, the sky’s the limit for Germany

|

This new wave of gifted young players has brought about a new era in German football and many people now see them as the team to watch in major international competitions in the near future. But with so many young, technically gifted members of the squad, they will be keen to not only keep them playing in Germany, but also getting them regular first team football. Franz Beckenbauer recently said, amid speculation of a move to Bayern for Reus, that this could be one star too many, I think he is absolutely right.

For the good of the player and the good of the national side, I think that Reus needs to focus on his goals and responsibilities at Borussia, and not be caught up in speculation. He has a key role to play in helping his team try to reach European competition and that is one that will help him grow as a player and grow in character. He doesn’t have as much experience playing at a high level as some of his German team mates and, at this stage of his career, it is important for him to be comfortable with his surroundings and not be thrown into a new setting. If Germany can nurture their newly recognised hot prospects in the right way, there is no limit to what they can achieve on an international level.
