It really shouldn’t be a transfer priority for Liverpool

|

There remains the fear at Anfield that Carroll will continue to struggle until he develops a reputation similar to that of Fernando Torres at Chelsea. If Liverpool were to sign anybody else this January, Andy Carroll would find himself even more frozen out and that could be it for his Liverpool career.

For me it makes more sense for Liverpool to attempt to make the most of their £35m signing rather than attempt to bring in new blood. A new signing may work well initially, but as soon as Luis Suarez returned from his ban, somebody would be forced to bide their time on the sidelines and it could create an uncomfortable situation.

It’s time for Liverpool to stop looking to the transfer market to solve their problems and start making their system work around their star players. Andy Carroll certainly has the ability to be one of the Premier League’s best strikers, but whether he’ll pull this off is dependent on whether Liverpool offer him more time.

It’s been frustrating watching the team miss chance after chance and do feel we need a good signing in the attacking area like a threatening winger.

I agree that we should have faith in Carroll, Kuyt, Bellamy and Suarez as our strike force especially after all the money spent on Carroll in particular.

Carroll will be a good signing, Ive no doubt. It’s like KD keeps saying that we’re creating chances and sooner or later we are going to give someone a hiding. Looking forward to AC scoring against Newcastle on friday.

We need a natural goal srorer! somebody who spends most of his time between the sticks!

However we also need to address the wing’s! Downing is not the answer!

For me we need both these positions addressed in the window! Hoilett or Moura for the wing. De Jong/Rudnev or Soldado up front.

Lucas moura is not a winger!
He is an attacking mid, judging by this post you have no clue what you are talking about!
Downing has been great this seasons, he should have had 6-7 goals but everytime been unlucky with the post or bar!

I reckon we should try and get Elia, he’s pacy, skillful and definitely a winger. Would love to see him in red!

  • Great topic but I’m in the “We need to sign a new striker now” camp as both Suarez and Carroll require a partner of real quality to work alongside them. I actually like Carrol but he’s struggling to find his “Newcastle” form but we can’t keep waiting for him to come good. Here’s a link to a blog post I wrote on the topic just yesterday. Cheers.

I agree we should back in our strikers but still think we need to look to the transfer market. We are thread bare in the midfield. Lucas gone for the season, Gerrard can’t be relied on to remain fit while Adam & Henderson need to be rotated. An AM & and DM are needed. Kagawa & Reges would be nice.

  • Why must bring another and whom to bring there is only one and will remain the player who scored goals genuinely it’s Messi that why i said that before any Liverpool players have to utilize their mind more than energy possibillityto score maximum of goals

Agree with all the points in the article and 9 out of 10 strikers need a 6 to 18 month ‘bedding in’ period at new clubs, even if we bought the most prolific striker in Europe like city did last year with Dzeko there is no guarantee they’ll score goals straight away Dzeko only managed 2 in 15 last year but has proved he is top class this year. I think Carroll an Suarez are both good an will find their goalscoring form sooner than later and when they do watch out league we’ve got most creative and most defensive team once we add goals…oh boy. Saying all that though we do need to add two attacking players to the squad, we’ve got 2 strikers, 2 wingers and Kuyt an Bellamy who can do either role compare that to other teams and we are at least 2 options short and think another out an out striker and another natural wide player would be brilliant. Far as I’m concerned in Gerrard, Adam, Henderson, Spearing and Shelvey along with talent in academy and other players like Agger and Aurelio able to play there our central midfield is good enough till Lucas comes back in the summer, its certainly cooed fine without Lucas, Gerrard and Spearing for last few games. When everybody is fit I think we have best keeper, defence an central midfield in the league.

In my view, the reason the goals are not coming is not because we don’t have proven goal scorers. It is simply because our players are snatching at chances although there are better options to ensure a better outcome. This is what the LFC management needs to work on. However, LFC require creative players that will give the attackers the opportunity to make their runs and pick their spot – LFC need a player in the mould of Silva, Mata or even Dembele. That is what is missing! A player that can hold the ball and make a killer pass. We should not be dogmatic about pass-and-move. If such a player is available in this window, it would be great. If not, we pray Gerard will be allowed to play like 2008/9. What is urgent is a defensive midfileder, not just because Lucas is injured but becuase LFC lack such players! YNWA

Can see why you are saying what you’re saying and 150% agree about the snatched chances being the problem, but can’t agree about the need for those two players as fewest goals conceded and most chances created mean we are doing damn well in both those departments and as you say Gerrards return will mean even more improvement.

      • GG says:

        Hi there,

I agree the team has been superb in defending but we have always been light on DMs. With Lucas injured the situation is a bit dire. In any case, having a good DM core allows players like Gerard to go forward and do some damage. We need that to convert the numerous chances being created. Similarly, I feel we need a creative player (hopefully a right-footed winger) to complete the team and also to bring an end to the unsettled snatching. Such a player will give the team a bit more time to finish off chances calmly. My view is that we are going to require such players sooner or later and it would be strategic to invest in these areas. YNWA!
