IN a recent interview for LFC.tv ahead of the Reds next game against Newcastle United, forward Craig Bellamy has revealed who he would choose to represent Liverpool in a 5-a-side competition.

The speedy Welshman, who should be back in contention to face the Magpies this weekend, was graceful enough to leave himself out, insisting he’s ‘not good enough’ to make the team!

“It’s hard because there’s a lot of good players,” stated Bellamy.

“I’m going to be falling out with everybody over this, but obviously Pepe [Reina] would have to go in goal. Then I’d have to have a back two of Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher, just for his intimidation of the referee!” The fiery forward then finalised his team by adding:

“I couldn’t pick myself as I’m not good enough to be in there, so I’d have Stevie [Gerrard] and Suarez.”

For such an attack-minded player, that sure is a slightly defensive set-up for a 5-a-side match. Questions would also have to be raised in Carragher’s selection – if 11-a-side is now catching him out then the small-sided, faster game would surely see him encounter more difficulties! Also, is Bellamy being a little modest dropping himself? I’d exchange him for Carra and he could equally fill in for the important task of moaning at the ref!

Or how about Maxi? Surely his classy, pass-and-move style of link-up play would be perfectly suited to the small-sided game.

Either way it’s all a bit of fun! So who’d make your ultimate Liverpool Football Club 5-a-side team?

I've produced work for many football media outlets & am now happy to run a major site on the club I love - providing our fans with a voice, and to bring as much information and news on the club as possible.
