Ta-ra Kenny!

UNLIKE some of my colleagues and fellow Liverpool fans, I disagree that sacking Kenny Dalglish was a hasty move or one hard to take in.

While the man’s contribution and dedication to one club for a major portion of his life is very laudable indeed, some of the decisions he’s made based on the importance and significance of his stature aren’t.

Dalglish is and always will be a legend at Anfield. Anyone who wishes to think otherwise, is clearly mistaken.

However, this is a man who proved extremely stubborn throughout this season in terms of sticking by his decisions and justifying them to the moon and back – even if they were horrendously wrong.

Apologies for mentioning the same few things over and over again – then again King Kenny made the same errors over and over again – and it was painful to watch those as well at the team’s expense.

The endless times when he seemed settled for a draw and refused to bring on substitutes until the dying seconds of the game.

Or maybe he refused to start with an experienced professional like Dirk Kuyt, giving the nod to his supposed boy prodigy Jordan Henderson over and over and over again. Yet he did nothing.

Getting rid of Raul Mereiles – let’s not open up that can of worms. It affected the team bad though and that’s just all his selection decisions. Let’s look at the tactics. Initially throughout the season, there weren’t enough bodies in the box.

Gazillions of crosses went in and no one was there to meet it. Andy Carroll was repeatedly tried out as a lone front man to knock the ball up to. Everyone in football advises against that these days, yet Dalglish went for that anyway. Carroll proved much useful later as a second striker playing behind the front man. Bit too late though.

Then later in the season when there were bodies in the box, the service dried up. One way or another, Dalglish got it wrong. There was no fluidity to Liverpool’s play when they lost matches, and sadly when they did manage to back defences into a corner, they still almost always managed a draw.

Tough luck Kenny, you’re a great loyal servant to the club, but your abstinence wasn’t backed up by results.

Would you have really retained him yourself, if you were John Henry?

  • THE TRUTH says:

Kenny sold TOM INCE to Blackpool for £200 k – WHAT A CRAZY SALE – He was not fit to manage LFC – Correct decision FSG

  • J75J says:

Kuyt? Was as poor as the rest in front of goal had plenty of chances to cement a starting place!
All the players know their poor finishing cost us 4th place.50 chances on goal more then Man U but 40 goals less them then! But you say the football wasn’t fluid? So how did we create those 515 shots on goal then over 13 chances on average a game then?

  • Erin says:

Legend for us. Loves the club but not up for the modern game. Simple as that. The buy British policy sealed his fate. When you look for the best, you just don’t limit yourself to 1% of the world market. If you do that, you end up with players like Henderson and Carrol . Truth is, there are some fantastic English players but everyone is monitoring them. Man u , Chelsea, city, arse and co. prices are sky high.
Not all is lost. Striker/winger/midfield player needed. Get them correctly and watch the team win games and climb the table. We are not a million miles away. Arsenal are weak. One injury away from ending up mid table. Chelsea are a year older! Man u and city will be there but with the right additions we can get there.
There is talent out there. Just got to find it. Look at Newcastle with their Ba and Pa…. No CL football, no problem.
In my opinion Navas would improve us, plus another midfielder , like Javi Martinez. Neither of them play in the CL.
What we need is a manager who can attract talent and improve the ones we have. Step forward rafa. If he can’t make you, he will break you. Look at arbeloa . Mediocre in the first season but with hard work became class. Babel never made it because of his attitude. My point is, Henderson does have talent. Just need some hard work and guidance . Same goes for Carrol. Downing and Adam are bench players.
Keep faith and hope we get the right person

For F… sake leave the man alone!!! He is gone so everyone has to move on! The club needs a new manager who can take us to a higher level. Kenny you will always be king.YNWA.

the 3rd coming the writers name says it all to scouse for me

  • Gary says:

What a joke of an article
Written by someone who knows zero and clearly does not actually go to anfield

    • Red Rod says:

Well said Gary, and the dismissive ta-ra headline directed at a man who did more for LFC than any single man in our history is simply disgraceful. These bastads are turning our beloved club into bloody chelski. Tossers.

      • David Tyrer says:

Why is it that anybody that doesn’t share your opinion a. never goes to Anfield, b. doesn’t understand the club and c. isn’t from one of the handful of postcodes that surround the area around our ground?

What exactly do you think you’re achieving by trying to make the club exclusive to people who are literally from the immediate vicinity of the ground and the football club? Do you think we’d even BE in the top division if it wasn’t for having a massive fan-base from all over the world?

It’s ‘fans’ like you that are the embarassment (not to mention, disgrace) Red Rod; always offering criticism of people’s opinions and articles but never offering valid reasons for disagreeing other than ‘oh, well I’m from Everton Valley, or Speke, or West Derby and I hold a season ticket so my opinion is thoroughly more valid than anybody elses’. You need to drag yourself out of the past and realise that we have millions of fans all over the world and that they all have different opinions. I’ve supported the club for over 30 years, since the day I was born and I was born in Liverpool. I’ve lived in Allerton, Belle Vale, Woolton and now the City Centre and I agree with pretty much all of what the author said in his article. Nobody is denying that Kenny is a legend and thankfully, he moved out of the club before he damaged his legend any more. Just because he is no longer the manager and wasn’t believed to be up to scratch doesn’t mean he’s being disrespected, it means he wasn’t doing a good enough job.

And also, Gary, what the eff difference does it make whether he goes to Anfield or not? Why does that mean that your opinion is more valid than anybody elses? Seriously, people like you two baffle me, it’s a wonder you’re able to function when your views about what is and isn’t allowed in supporting a football club are so clearly stuck in the last millenia.

        • Matt Castellian says:

Well said – my sentiments exactly. Hodgson was forced out of the club (I didn’t want him in the first place by the way)he was never up to the job.
Sadly, Kenny isn’t up to the job either so fair enough that he gets the sack as well. I was born in St. Domingo Road so does my opinion count?

        • Red Rod says:

A disrespectful throw-away comment like ta-ra which is clearly out to be provocative and inflammatory couldnt be more insulting if it was a RIVAL fan. Exactly where and when did you lose your standards as an LFC fan?

        • Malaysian Kop says:

Agreed with David… I am a Malaysian… Malaysia is thousands of kilometres away.. I have never been able to afford travel to Anfield.. I have been supporting Liverpool for the past 29 years… when Liverpool came to our shores last year , i was lucky enough to have led a group of fans on stage singing YNWA with me standing just infront of Meireiless,Kartigiakos,Carroll and Poulsen (got my LFC cap signed by him)… after i finished singing i s shook hands with all of them… later in the evening I went to our National Stadium ,seating capacity 100,000, with 80,000 Malaysian Liverpool fans singing YNWA at the start of the game and at the end of it (with the team doing a lap around the stadium)… research conducted indicated that there is 5 million Liverpool fans in Malaysia (national population 27-28 million)… the same research also indicated there’s 3 million fans in Thailand and 57 million! in China… that’s why Standard Chartered Bank chose Liverpool (as they have big business presence in these countries)… the numbers does not include fans in Indonesia,India to say the least…. So Gary, from one Kopite to another, every fan is entitled to his opinion….In Malaysia, the fans subcribe to a satellite TV company to watch the matches… and we are no less a Kopite than those who live around and who goes to Anfield themselves….

  • Glenn says:

    The problem is
There is fans who GO to the game
and fans who watch the results

The ones who GO know we have gone forward in terms of the pass and move play & attacking attitude.
That’s why we have created so many chances
KD was re-establishing our tried and trusted game plan after the ” dark years , of negative play from GH & RB . Was a joy to watch the play at times last year
But This takes time . Can’t happen over night

The ones who the results on the tv or Internet , like the writer here , think differently than those who pay to go .
    It’s only a table them .
they think the real game is Like the football manager PC game .
These so called fans should be ashamed of themselves and I’d prefer they go and support man city

    • Jim Lynch says:

Ok Glen I’m from Walton Vale, I’m a season ticket holder and disagree with you. I quite enjoyed some of those “dark years”. If the season was any longer Kenny might have got us relegated pal. No sure what supporting Man City means either!

  • Red4Life says:

    Thankyou KD

Shame on you players we brought in last season for not repaying the faith KD showed in signing you guys!

Wot a waste of money, we should sell these flops taking a hit on the price and bring in quality overseas signings along with bringing through the youngsters.

Rafa or AVB as a replacement please as they will get us back to CL where we belong. After all, Rafa did put in foundations of the youth team when he was with us but got shafted in the final season by Sadler and walforf bickering.

    YNWA

  • F.O says:

Rafa must come back, bcos mind is tellin me,he is d one

  • Chris Wignall says:

    TA-RA KENNY! ?????

That horribly dismissive headline is right out of the Kelvin Mackenzie school of journalism.

Shame on you and shame on the Huyton born editor who should no better.

    No respect.

    • Jimmy Areabi says:

Every single one of our fans has a right to their own opinion, as do my writers. Whilst you (and I, for that matter) may not agree with those sentiments – especially in this article/headline – like it or not a lot of people do, and have differing, strong viewpoints. Being from Liverpool or Lagos has nothing to do with ‘knowing better’ and the writer wanted the strong headline to back up his feelings on the matter – but comparing an article headline like this to a dirty Mackenzie-style piece and what they brought to our club…shame on you.

      • Chris Wignall says:

Jimmy, this headline really upset me and this is why.

Kenny is a god to me, not just because of his achievements on the pitch or in the dugout but what he did for the club in its darkest hour.

He deserved better than a crass offensive headline whether you think he should be sacked or not.

Its a poor show and I think you and the writer have misjudged this one.

        • Jimmy Areabi says:

Chris, I appreciate your concern and I share your sentiments. Because of my beliefs and feelings towards Kenny, I too found this difficult to read. However, in this instance I chose to not censor one of my writers and his headline, however much I don’t agree, as there are many fans who do feel the same way as him. No misjudgement – the point of an opinion piece is just that – to air an opposing view, and then let the issue be debated. Thanks for raising your concerns though.

  • Glenn says:

Abidjan don’t call yoursel a supporter of Liverpiool football club
Your writing skills are appalling .
Have you got no respect what so ever ?

Do you even know what the Liverpool way is ?
We are supposed to be supporters
    Not critics you idiot

  • Bekim says:

Yes. We all agree that the man was, is and will always b a LEGEND. But the bottom line is that he had to go its simple as that. Table doesn’t lie and finishing 8th in the league its just not good enough no matter how much some KD friends in the media tried to make us believe that we were making progress we were. It making progress at all. We need to move on and hope that FSG now will appoint a top class mngr.KD gonne is not the most important thing now. Finding a top class mngr IS. MOVE ON PEOPLE,MOVE ON.

  • Abhijan Barua says:

    Lads

All I’ll say is I grew up in a fair different places ranging from outside the UK as well as back home which unfortunately for me wasn’t in Liverpool.

Surrounded by millions of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea supporters – not to mention the gazillions of Real Madrid and Barcelona fans, I’ve stood my ground and worn my Liverpool shirt proudly as a supporter.

However I’m not blind. Kenny dalglish is a legend for what he did as a player and a manager in the 90s.

His second stint damaged us beyond disgraceful proportions. You want to defend the man who got us as low as 8th and giving teams like swansea and Blackburn a chance to shurg us off as ‘Just another team’ who they’d more likely beat.

Think back 5 years ago. Could you expect Fulham and Wolves to beat us? This year they did. We’ve become a joke in English football.

Know what everyone calls me when they hear I’m a Liverpool supporter? (Irrespective of whether I’m back home in the UK or abroad)

They say – ‘Stop living in the past mate, you’re nothing now.’

I’m sure they’re laughing themselves silly now when they hear so many of the so called faithfuls defending Kenny’s ways and our performance this season as justifiable – all because you watched us lose from the touchline thanks to your season tickets, as opposed to me watching it on the telly.

The Headline hurt you did it?

Watching Liverpool get their backsides handed to them throughout the season hurt me more.
