Who Needs Torres – We Have Suarez!

ON Saturday Wembley hosts the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea which will be broadcast to millions around the world.

It’s England’s showcase knock-out tournament and it’s shaping up to be on hell of game and if Liverpool do win (I’m praying they pull it off of course) no doubt it won’t be done the easy way.

What Liverpool final victory ever is?

Of course, scoring those cup winning goals will be crucial and Liverpool have one of the league’s most creative, dare I say magical, strikers in Luis Suarez. Suarez has just come off one the best hat-tricks produced by a Liverpool forward in last weekend’s match against Norwich so the boost in his confidence couldn’t have come at a better time. It will be his constant threat that will be needed to give Liverpool the edge over Chelsea if they are to secure their second trophy of the season.

At the other end of the pitch trying to undo Liverpool’s defense will likely be our former friend, now foe, Fernando Torres. It’s not certain if Torres will start the match as Drogba may be preferred but if he does the comparison between the two will be a real talking point.

As you all know, Suarez joined Liverpool in the wake of Torres abandoning Liverpool for a “bigger club”, our opponents on Saturday, and is much reviled by Liverpool supporters for his total disrespect for the people who once adored him and supported him through thick and thin. Suarez in contrast stepped eagerly and classily into the Liverpool team and instantly showed what a quality player he is. A simply excellent buy.

Suarez even had the grace to return to Ajax to thank the supporters and would be welcomed back to Amsterdam at any time. In contrast Torres wouldn’t be given the time of day in Liverpool. But at the time of leaving Liverpool Torres was showing disturbing signs of a total loss of form and his body language clearly showed his lack of commitment and desire and this has continued to haunt him during his time at Chelsea. Suarez’s was a breath of fresh air and his early outstanding performances made it clear that the loss of Torres was actually a blessing in disguise.

So far this season Suarez has scored 17 goals in all competitions compared to Torres’ 11, 4 of those coming in the past week, and when you factor in the fact that Suarez was out of action for 8-matches due to that ridiculous FA ban then that tally would surely have been higher.

It would have been hard to imagine just 18 months ago how Liverpool could ever find a striker that would have the flair and creativity to match and outshine Torres but Suarez has done just that. Don’t get me wrong, Torres at his best was lethal and a joy to watch and my only regret is that we never got to see what kind of partnership he and Suarez could have formed. What I do know is that Suarez is once more at his very best and I’m betting he’ll be on the score-sheet next Saturday afternoon.

Let’s just pray to god that KD don’t start Carrager cos Torres will torment him. I have the same regret that we never saw Torres and Suarez play up front for us. I’d still have Torres instead of Caroll any minute of the day.

    • Chan says:

Sorry Bekim but i think KD would play Carragher b’cos KD NEVER had the interest of the club as priority but only those of his own and his henchmen.

Sentiments would rule instead of logic.

u have to point out that 4 of torres’s goals came last week even though suarez had 3 from the same time ? torres has 18 assists too and even though suarez had a ban for 8 matches torres has to share his time upfront with drogba, suarez wont get any competition from your caveman. and suarez classy ?? please

    • Baz says:

      Yes Classy

Although he could walk into any team in the country and Liverpool have once again failed to get into the CL, he has re iterated his desire to stay and has even re negotiated his contract. (Which funnily enough doesn’t include the words “30 pieces of silver”)

I take it you are not a Red but a plastic fan who waves a plastic flag for his plastic club with their plastic history…… NOW THAT’S REAL CLASS

@chris. What do u mean please?? So u think Suarez isnt classy. Torres until recently looked like he was going to be booted out of Chelsea as everyone had lost patience with him. Yes he is a class act at his best and he done wonders at Liverpool but ill have Suarez over Torres at ManU any given day. Id love to see him partner up with Rooney.

  • RedRoy says:

I’d carry Torres back to Anfield where he belongs. Top class player, just hope he does’nt get last laugh on saturday. Every chance he might.

  • Chan says:

First some perspective,Suarez was bought to partner Torres. Torres might had suffered loss of form but we can’t deny he is world class.

Suarez is world class too but as we can see, his forte is in creating chances, not scoring consistently. That Norwich hattrick was an exception rather than the rule.

And to fans, especially those of the KD type, we might question Torres’s sense of loyalty and gratitude but we can’t deny he has good foresight. I mean how many world class players would want to play for a crappy manager like KD, whose definition of modern football is limited to the 1990’s. Torres is after all playing in the CL with a real possibility to win it.

    • Bekim says:

I don’t think enough was done to persuade him to stay. KD thought that Caroll will b good enough as his replacement. That one was as good move as the one Purslow took when he decided to replace CHL mngr Rafa with LMA mngr Roy Hodgson.

  • Dean says:

I still have high regards for Torres. He was so good the first season with us.As a pro he lost his appetite eventually when he could not get what he wanted from Liverpool. lost of team mates such as Alonso and Mascherano disappointed him further. I cant blame him for that and he wanted to try with another team for his dream …. and he had to choose CHELSEA … well better Chelsea the MU.
I will still wish him well. And thank him for the good times he gave us. WE LOST HIM BECAUSE OF OUR OWN FAULT.
