AS hinted at yesterday on L4L, Liverpool Football Club will now not employ a Director of Football according to the Liverpool Echo. The Club’s American owners had been expected to appoint a Sporting Director and a Technical Director to work above Brendan Rodgers in the club’s proposed new management structure.

The Echo reports that, new manager, Brendan Rodgers, who has been officially unveiled as boss at a press conference at Anfield this morning, will instead work with a three man “football executive team” to help with the day to day running of the club.

This move means that Louis van Gaal, who is believed to have offered his services for a role in the Anfield hierarchy, will not be joining the club.

FSG are known to favour a spreading of responsibility and believe that the English model, of handing a manager total responsibility for all matters at a football club, to be less than optimum in terms of trying to achieve success in the modern game.

Just who will make up this three man executive team is still unknown. The team, say the Echo, will be put in place next week with Txiki Begiristain, the former Director of Football at the Camp Nou, tipped to take a position as well as a likely promotion for Pep Segura, also a former Barcelona employee, who is currently technical manager at Liverpool’s Kirkby Academy.

The Echo goes on to say, that with Rodgers bringing three key members of his backroom staff from Swansea: Colin Pascoe, Glen Whelan and Chris Davies, the Anfield futures of Steve Clarke and Kevin Keen have been thrown into doubt, with the pair likely to leave the club.
