REPORTS this morning claim that Joe Allen is moving ever closer to completing a move from Swansea City to Liverpool Football Club.
Allen has been linked with a move to Anfield ever since ex-Swans’ boss, Brendan Rodgers, left the Liberty for the North-West almost eight weeks ago and, in the last few days, the proposed deal has gathered momentum.
Despite an agreement between Rodgers and Swansea chairman, Huw Jenkins, which was supposedly to prevent the Northern Irishman from going after the Welsh club’s players for at least a year, new Swansea boss, Michael Laudrup seems resigned to losing Allen, should he wish to make the move.
“You can’t say yes or no without having spoken to the player,” said the Dane. “If he says, I want to stay, I am so happy here, then he stays.
“But if we get a very big offer and he says I want to leave, then what is there to keep him here? So the most important thing is always the player.”
Swansea have placed a £15m price tag on the young Welshman, however, as reported in the Times, Liverpool are believed to value the player at £10m and are unlikely to be pushed any higher. With Laudrup’s admission that the player’s future rests in his own hands, Swansea may have to accept the offer on the table from the Anfield club.
Allen is away on Olympic duty with Team GB, however, in his absence the two clubs seem to be on the verge of an agreement on the transfer fee and, with Allen’s agent reportedly in Liverpool today for talks with Ian Ayre, a deal could be announced by the end of this week.
Allen, 22, had a stellar season for the Swans in their first ever Premier League campaign. In a team which shone, he was undoubtedly one of its brightest stars. With a pass success rate of 91.2 per cent, he was better in that department than the likes of Andres Iniesta of Barcelona and, former Reds favourite Xabi Alonso, now of Real Madrid.

Is he that good? Are we going to be able to sell Aqualani (previous 3 managers have failed), Adam and spearing? I dislike Henderson but wont sell him on one season.
If we sell Spearing, who are we having on the bench to cover Lucas when he needs some rest? Convert Hendo, Jonjo etc into defensive Midfielders?
Aqua and Hendo will be cover for Allen and Gerrard. Jonjo might go on loan to Swansea as part of the Allen deal (although I’d rather he stayed) and we’ll have to buy cover for Lucas (hopefully), God only knows why Kenny didn’t!
we dont want shelvey we only look for players who can pass,move and play as a team–he aint good enough —hope joe allen stays with us to help us move up a gear from last year-joe is one of the best midfield players in the country but wont get the credit because hes welsh and plays for swansea -if you sign him then give him the choice of midfield roles because he will be your best player-15m thats cheap hes worth more

Waste of money. We don’t need him. Where is he going to play? In a 7 man midfield??? Use the money on a class striker. Most of the top 5 teams have more than 4 strikers and we have 2 !!!

LFC should buy the right player irrespective of nationality.
I think this more driven by his agent than LFC as he should cost between 6-8 million. What is Allen role in a team as Lfc need a holding midfielder and wideplayer/striker. We have Gerrard, Henderson, Cole, Adam, Aquilani compiting for that one spot and only Lucas as real DM. LFC need to sell Adam, Spearing, Cole, Aquilani before thinking of adding Allen. In my view Allen is overrated player. Lets go for him next season after he had his second season in PL.
Aqua and Allen will compete for the same place, as will Gerrard and Hendo. Lucas definitely needs cover. Adam will hopefully go in the Dempsey deal, Shelvey looks likely to go to Swansea on loan as part of the Allen deal. Cole is part of the front 3, so I don’t know why you mentioned him? That just leaves Spearing to hopefully be sold and his much needed replacement brought in.
Also, having worked with him, I’m pretty sure Rodgers knows Allen’s abilities a bit better than we do!
Just shows how far behind we are. Wer being linked with Allen where United are being linked with Lucas Moura. Id rather play the likes of Suso and Sterling than waste yet more money on Allen and Dempsey. Anyone else think this ?
Allen is class. He dictated almost every game he played last season. Have you even seen Lucas Moura play apart from on youtube (which btw makes Heskey look great)… Hes weak, very lazy, and a post op transexual is better in the tackle department than him! Rodgers just spent two years building a team around him at Swansea, because he knows the lad is class.

Lucas Moura is absolute quality ive followed his career i hope he doesn’t end up at the scum and have some respect. Regarding Allen i don’t know too much about him only the glimpses i saw last season and what others have said about him, i don’t doubt his quality it’s the price we’ll probably pay for him which is over the top.
If Adam goes in the Dempsey deal it will be great business for Fulham because i can really see Adam doing well there scoring and assisting then Fulham making alot of money on him when they sell him on somewhere down the line. I aint no Adam fan but i still think theres money to be lost on him, how many years ahs Dempsey really got left? he’ll be at LFC 2 years max

Allen will be a fantastic addition to the squad if we can get him. Lucas, Allen and Gerrard for the next couple of years.
Aqua is looking for a route out to anywhere in europe, Adam is too slow for the playing style. Hendo will be excellent under BR and little Jay will be happy to be associated with the club in whatever capacity. So we dont have such a huge squad of quality players that people think we do.
So welcome Joe Allen and can you bring a friend who can bag 2o goals a season with you…..

We have more midfielders but a weak 1 , jay spearing,downing,adam and hernderson and joe cole these guys will never make it @ liverpool.they need to be loaned and if a market is their then sell them coz noone wont pay those sums we paid..allen can come good but dont pay too much for him,but i think adam johnson and gaston ramirez can bring life to our mid…
For your information, we don’t have midfielders. Joe Allen is not overated. Joe Allen is better than what we have (adams,spearing, henderson,downing,carrol). LFC will fall inlove with him when he comes, i bet u. He is a very good passer of the ball, a good tackler, paceful, skillful, good dribbler, chance creator. This guy is one of a kind. He is mr creative. We should get him (JOE ALLEN), CLIENT DEMPSEY and GASTON RAMIREZ.

Allen is a very great addition for 15 mil. but do we need him? I’d say no. plenty of depth in the squad but some areas require spending before CM. *new player maybe.

Pls BR what i want you to do is play suso in the ledgue this season. Secondly players at LFC should not big for the club if skertel want to go let him go we are in the middle of building our team not frustrating it. Danny wilson can be a perfect replacement for him if he goes also coates. Thirdly you must not sell andy caroll he can be an inspirational player this season. Also not loan or sell aquilani let him play with us this season last above all try to place player in their right possesion,
