…purple, or “Nightshade”, to give it its marketing name – designed by Warrior, who have also added the company’s interesting Mauri-inspired pattern effect to the sleeves.

Initial thoughts are it’s not as bad as first feared (remember some of those hideous mock-ups?), and at least the shorts are not bright orange (again, rumoured). We’re not too sure about taking inspiration from previous Goalkeeping jerseys for an outfield kit, but there you go…

So what’s your verdict?

Here’s some official blurb:

Delivering a bold design statement, Warrior has unleashed the new 2012/13 Liverpool FC third kit. With a striking graphic print set over a daring colour palette of nightshade, orange and white, the new kit will be worn by Liverpool FC during their upcoming UEFA Europa League campaign and selected Barclays Premier League games.

Inspiration behind the kit’s dominant nightshade colour stems from popular past goalkeeper kits worn by David James during the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons, and Pepe Reina in 2010/11.

Ancient tribal warrior markings have been set along the outer sides of the sleeves and side panels – a design first for the Club. Beyond the third kit, this tribal graphic features heavily throughout the 2012/13 Liverpool FC range of apparel and accessories.

Club captain Steven Gerrard said: “The new third kit is completely different from anything we’ve had at LFC during my time at the Club; it’s part of a new era and is a great design. The players love it.”

Manager Brendan Rodgers, who was recently appointed said: “The strip offers the supporters something new, fresh and exciting to wear. I know the players are looking forward to wearing it and performing with pride and distinction in it.”

I've produced work for many football media outlets & am now happy to run a major site on the club I love - providing our fans with a voice, and to bring as much information and news on the club as possible.

One thing that puzzles me. Surely the photographer could have made a better attempt at the final results. All three players look as if they have rather lop-sided , straggly and dense black beards!
It all looks quite comical ‘though the kit seems okay to me.

OMFG! what the hell kind of shirt is this?

like its not bad enough that we’re sporting a third rate brand (a subsidiary of a crap make)!!!

    • Michael says:

record breaking kit deal and you’re moaning? shall we stick to addidas and get a 1/4 of what we’re getting now.

better still back to reebok for a tenth of what we’re getting now. change your name to embarrassing_red

OK, so with your argument, Poundland come along and say we’ll offer you X more quid to make your kit and you’d be made up with that name plastered all over it?

Who are the prestige sports clothes manufacturers? Stuff you buy from the High Street stores?

Come on then Michael….where’s your Warrior bag? Warrior trainers? Warrior tracky? Warrior whatever? Bet you’ve got none of that bar one of the Liverpool shirts/kits….or are you just itching to buy this one?

The deal is good but you can’t escape the fact that the brand is of a much lower level and this purple/chav tattoo monstrosity is not a design you’d dream of buying. Even Warrior’s parent company have never been a brand to show off to your mates!!!!

And where’s its relation to anything in our history? The famous purple of Liverpool? The tribal design that Shanks used to love so much perhaps?

Hey, but stick “LFC” on it and it’s suddenly nice right?

Look beyond the money mate cos that arguments not gonna stop you from getting the piss ripped outta ya by pure strangers if you go out with this on.

ya and embarrassing red you would rather take the 50 million addias would offer. then you would complane about not enough money is being invested in players. maybe we should hold out for polo sports to come in with an offer of 10million. will have to sell our best players because their wages are to high but our shirts will be the nicest in the championship. muppet you take the most money on offer.

Warrior Sports are a breath of fresh air compared to the stale approach of Adidas. Great to have Warrior as Liverpool sponsors!

  • james says:

    I quite like it.

  • John Matlin says:

At least it doesn’t have the awful grandad collar of the other two kits. I quite like it, although I think it would have looked better with the abovementioned omitted orange shorts (a bit disappointed about that actually)

  • Bekim says:

It doesn’t look bad at all. I quite like it.

  • Damo says:

    ‘Muari’? What’s that?

  • erik says:

do warrior actually want to sell any shirts ? all the kits are horrible , my 2 boys always get home and away kits but they dont want any shirts this year . its one thing being proud to be a liverpool fan but me and my family wont wear stuff that is horrible . now we must wait at least a year to buy anything . kop on warrior !

  • NJRedsFan says:

I think they missed the mark a bit with the tribal reference. When I saw the ‘leaks’ of the design I thought they were going for the scroll work pattern on the Shankley gates. The ‘tribal’ patterns from Liverpool way were a bit different from what was used. A bit of a gaff but it’s the third kit, why get so worked up over it?
