LIVERPOOL Football Club are confident of signing Turkish international, Nuri Sahin and Spanish youngster, Cristian Tello, on loan deals from Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, reports the ever reliable Liverpool Echo this morning, after our breaking news here yesterday.
The pair would initially arrive at Anfield on season-long deals and, as Rodgers continues to re-shape the squad, the Northern Irishman is confident that the signings will be completed in time for this weekend’s opener away at the Hawthorns.
Sahin, 23 has been informed that he will be allowed to leave the Bernabeu and, having spoken with ex-Liverpool favourite Xabi Alonso, has apparently made Brendan Rodgers aware of his desire to move to Anfield ahead of Arsenal or Tottenham. The deal is expected to be completed within the next 48 hours, and all that remains now is for the loose ends to be tied-up.
Meanwhile the Reds expect to secure the Tello deal shortly, after Ian Ayre flew to Spain to finalise the parameters.
Tello, who is 21, scored 7 goals in 22 appearances during his breakthrough season last year at the Camp Nou. However, with Guardiola leaving, new boss Tito Vilanova has informed the youngster that his first team opportunities will be limited this year and has officially listed him as part of the Catalan club’s “B” team.
The Echo goes on to say that, while Barcelona are interested in offering Tello a new contract, they would be happy to see him further his development by moving to Anfield for a year.

Whilst Tello can play on either flank, has pace and an eye for goal, Sahin can play across the midfield and even at left-back, as he has done in Real’s pre-season games. It is the versatility, as well as the talent, of these two players that makes them important acquisitions for Rodgers as he tries to deepen the squad available to him, having already signed Borini and Allen.
“The reality is the club probably lacked depth last year. We need to make a few signings just to get back those numbers,” said Rodgers.
“I believe we will do. But they are specific targets we are after and I believe when we get those players in they will make a difference for us.
“Normally with good players, the transfer is complex. They are never easy. There’s no doubt we have work to do. We need to improve the group and we need to get some players in. We need to do that sooner rather than later.”
The Echo finishes the report by saying that the club expect Martin Skrtel to sign a new long term contract.
